Yeah, last.fm works pretty well, although I'm unlikely to use it as long as my xbx audio is running through tv speakers. Facebook and twitter work fine but just feel a bit pointless - plugged a USB keyboard in to test them, but don't want to keep it connected permanently and can't see me using those features without it. Handiest thing is probably the fact it can check your facebook friends and prompt you to add them to your live friend list if they have live accounts, but that's really going to be a one-use-only tool...once they're on the live list, there's no reason to go back into facebook.

oh my god the CSI game demo is so hilariously bad its worth playing
― Don Quishote (jjjusten), Tuesday, 27 October 2009 20:10 (sixteen years ago)
hmmm, I'm supposed to be participating in the twitter etc trial but haven't had anything through yet - does it appear as new menu functions?
― problem chimp (Porkpie), Tuesday, 27 October 2009 20:16 (sixteen years ago)
Should auto update your xbox as soon as you log into live, and then yeah, your basic menu gets an extra "community" tier.
Skyplayer was working briefly yesterday, until they pulled it again. Anyone get a chance to try it? I've not got a standard sky box, so it'd be £15 a month for me. Might give it a one month trial I guess, although I've not fully checked out what channels you get for that.
― JimD, Wednesday, 28 October 2009 12:40 (sixteen years ago)
weird, still not got it, and no word from microsoft either.
I have full sky privileges and max broadband on sky so am fully intending to use it to the max, will report back when it finally kicks off.

― sonderangerbot, Thursday, 5 November 2009 22:35 (sixteen years ago)
you know, its pretty hard for a demo to be so bad that it destroys any hope that i had that a game would be good, but marvel ultimate alliance 2 is that demo

NOT WHY
― twentysomething fuck (cozwn), Saturday, 26 December 2009 15:27 (sixteen years ago)
The only real reason is if there were any really killer exclusives coming up... But I don't think there are, and I can always play it over there anyway. Czn I thought you were a xbox stan. how come you play your shooters on xbl
― antexit, Saturday, 26 December 2009 15:32 (sixteen years ago)
I'm definitely not ready to get rid of my 360. I like the ps3 but the 360 is more well-rounded as a games machine. The ps3 is my blu-ray / ps3 exclusive / media machine.
― real bears playing hockey (polyphonic), Saturday, 26 December 2009 19:30 (sixteen years ago)
ok so dantes inferno demo is PRETTY FUCKING EXCITING
(yeah yeah i know its a god of war rip off, but whatever, i dont get to play your stupid god of war, so nyahhh)

I got 'Pure' for my kid as a wee £5 stocking filler and it's been on for two days solid - quick fix accessible fun with a pretty good learning curve (so far).
I also got 'Colin McCrae: Dirt 2' from my brother and so far (6 races in) I'm not v impressed - steering feels really light and slippy. Weird option to have a damage setting that makes the car look damaged but have nothing go wrong with it.
― Who was that Christmas-jumpered man? (onimo), Monday, 28 December 2009 22:44 (sixteen years ago)
I just bought a big fuck off HD with part of my xmas bonus money. Wanted to get a smaller HD but no transfer utility comes with any of them except the 120 gb. Mission accomplished, Microsoft.
― mayor jingleberries, Monday, 28 December 2009 22:48 (sixteen years ago)
I've never played either but wd like one of the xbla board games: catan or carcassone. which wd people recommend? do we have any regular players of either here?
― SKATAAAAAAAAAAA (webinar), Sunday, 17 January 2010 11:22 (sixteen years ago)
I love Catan on 360, on PC, as a board game, etc. The 360 version is a little slower than I'd like but a (related) plus is that the AI is pretty tough and consequently I lose a lot...enough to keep me pissed off enough to keep playing. If I had my 360 right now I'd love to play against you. Come August I will. My brother also loves Carcassonne (as a board game and on 360); one of these days I'll try it too.
― Euler, Sunday, 17 January 2010 11:26 (sixteen years ago)
also how's ticket to ride?
and why hasn't anyone brought any of the white dwarf board games to xbla? geek me wd love to play some warhammer 40k/necromunda/space hulk... hell I'd even take hero quest!
― SKATAAAAAAAAAAA (webinar), Sunday, 17 January 2010 11:27 (sixteen years ago)
thanks, euler. I think maybe mordy plays some catan?
I expect the answer to my games workshop question is 'who wd bother to buy the miniatures then?'
― SKATAAAAAAAAAAA (webinar), Sunday, 17 January 2010 11:36 (sixteen years ago)
I mean I don't even want fancy graphics - lots of the artwork by GW painters is great, digitised versions of their landscapes and models would be perfect
― SKATAAAAAAAAAAA (webinar), Sunday, 17 January 2010 11:38 (sixteen years ago)
carcassonne on the 360 is excellent if you turn the music off and add your own.
― real bears playing hockey (polyphonic), Sunday, 17 January 2010 18:49 (sixteen years ago)
I tried Ticket to Ride and the presentation was fine but the board game didn't really appeal to me. It was the first time I'd tried it though.
― real bears playing hockey (polyphonic), Sunday, 17 January 2010 18:50 (sixteen years ago)
Yeah, I play a little Catan on the 360. Good stuff.
― Mordy, Sunday, 17 January 2010 20:02 (sixteen years ago)
I tried the (very short) Death by Cube demo, and didn't like it at all. The most Robotron-like of the Robotron clones. I think the thing I liked least about it was how stiff the angles of your shot felt, compared to how fluid it feels in Geometry Wars.
― Jeff LeVine, Wednesday, 20 January 2010 18:12 (sixteen years ago)
ok so in the running "how did this even get to the stage where they try to sell it to you" game, i suggest that everyone go to games on demand and check out the screen shots for "Brave - A Warrior's Tale"

Darksiders is really good; it's basically Arkham Asylum if Ronnie James Dio had been in charge of the plot, but the dungeons are near Zelda quality
