I have a jar of water chestnuts sitting in my fridge.

I bought a can of them to make stir fry and put the remainder in a jar, which now sits in my fridge. It then occurred to me that I have no frickin idea what one does with water chestnuts other than make stir fry, which I don't necessarily feel like making again. So, other than stir fry, what does one do with water chestnuts?

going to call no eating them by themselves (I don't really like them raw), but soup is totally a good idea

Throw them away. In fact, when you bring them home from the store, just put the jar in the garbage instead of the refrigerator -- save yourself the decision-making later.

Put them in tuna salad or spinach dip -- they don't add a lot of flavor, but they're a nice texture variation.

never made a spinach dip tbh (although I pretty much always have fresh spinach on hand - my green of choice)

tuna salad is something I make all the time and sounds like a good call

Yes, sadly. There's something about that crunch.

rumaki!

take the water chestnuts and sandwich them between pate/chicken liver, wrap them in bacon and then fry them in oil.

Water chestnuts, heavens curtsey and bow

just checked my mom's rumaki recipe: she marinates the chicken livers in ginger/soy/scallions for 1-2 hours but it's relatively simple.

btw I made myself a tuna w/ mayo, mustard, hot sauce, water chestnuts, pickles, ground pepper, & garlic pepper salt on rye w/ fresh spinach and it was tasty as a mf
