Bananas.

Barf!

WmC, Sunday, 13 December 2009 23:49 (fourteen years ago) link

Red peppers have kind of a weird sweetness underneath them, ever taken a bite of them raw? You don't wanna overdo the peppers but they compliment each other well imo. I had it this morning, not barfy at all.

that's weird imo but maybe something like paprika would be good

Did this omelette have cheese in it?

WmC, Monday, 14 December 2009 01:18 (fourteen years ago) link

No, no cheese. Paprika sounds like maybe a good idea. I added a little cinnamon to it but it didn't quite feel right.

cumin?
turmeric?

I don't know if much is really gonna "feel right" in a banana omelette tbh

a full circle lol (J0hn D.), Monday, 14 December 2009 02:14 (fourteen years ago) link

Dash of tabasco maybe. Or maybe ginger and lime. But J0hn D. otm, the thing seems problematic.

^^I don't know if I like the turn this one has taken.

This sorta weird I know but I feel like there's something here. Tasted surprisingly like french toast with the cinnamon but tbh that's where the peppers felt weird. Parts where I really only tasted banana and peppers were like HMM MAYBE I CAN GO SOMEWHERE WITH THIS, parts that were really only bananas and cinnamon were pretty good but all three together was just really :\

I dunno, but anyway we went grocery shopping and have other things I can put in omelets so I think science will have to wait.

If you swap the banana for a plantain I'm on board

BTW I have no idea how to cook I just make things up which may explain things.

that way leads to fish with camembert/chocolate sauce

WmC, Monday, 14 December 2009 04:17 (fourteen years ago) link

Banana + eggs sounds like a textural bad time. Since this thing is already crazyland, the only thing I can guess is it may taste good with a small amount of Nutella.

This sounds like the time I made a peanut butter and bean burrito because I had only beans, tortillas and peanut butter in the house. The results were depressing.

I think this has serious potential fwiw. Plz keep us up to date.

bananas + eggs sounds gross but fish with camembert/chocolate sauce sounds like it might have potential...the last two are so good, how could the first ruin it?

Maria, Monday, 14 December 2009 17:53 (fourteen years ago) link

I had these fried plantains w/ aioli that were kinda genius last week or so, I think think that's how the idea wormed into my head. I'm applying for a job at a co-op today so I may try and pick some up.
Fish + chocolate making my head implode but I'm really put off by most fish/seafood.

the problem

the problem

oh shit

WmC, Monday, 14 December 2009 18:32 (fourteen years ago) link

There are so many things that just don't work together, and why force them, when there are so many other things that do???

I'd suggest people check out The Flavor Bible for inspiration.

Jaq, Monday, 14 December 2009 18:39 (fourteen years ago) link

i like abbott's nutella idea - it's almost like a crepe if you cook the egg in a really thin layer and fill w/ banana & nutella.

this is like when someone i knew put bananas in lentil soup last year and i was just O_O for days.

tehresa, Monday, 14 December 2009 20:45 (fourteen years ago) link

I don't know, this banana/bell pepper combo reminds me of the red banana cake dessert I got at Tamarind Tree (slices of red banana, small dollops of sticky rice, coconut cream) that came garnished with slices of green onions.

Just made a pretty fucking tasty drunken omelette with chorizo, chilli, thyme and parmesan. Share your impromptu omelette recipes here - P.S., no bananas.
