Cursed ingredient, I love thee so

Inspired by the organic produce thread, wherein I admit that I am rubbish at cooking squash in any of its forms, despite liking it. What ingredients, when you're faced with them, do you just think hunh?

Not an ingredient, but I'm mentioned my difficulty with frying, right? I made my every-four-years attempt at grilled cheese today. Sigh. I think I'm going to keep at it until I get it right, though.

FILO PASTRY, WHY MUST YOU SHRED UNDER MY HANDS SO?

Celeriac! Actually I thought of this after reading the thread on Zoe Williams which mentioned her rather bizarre article on what to do with those things left in the vegibox at the end of the week.

Anyway I spent about 2 hours yesterday making a celeriac, cabbage and chickpea soup but it went horribly wrong 'cos the chick peas weren't cooked enough and the cabbage was overcooked and the celeriac - well it just didn't seem to have much point.

So, anyway, celeriac?

Just grating it and adding vinaigrette is good too.

i like it boiled and pureed with olive oil, salt, pepper, and black olive tapenade as a kind of mashed potato substitute.
