it isnt extra. It is the sauce.

wasn't there a thread about the weirdos who get extra sauce on pizza?

I had never heard of a wet burrito until I moved to the 🇺🇸 midwest. but it can be good nonetheless
― droit au butt (Euler), Friday, 12 October 2018 03:22 (seven years ago)
I was surprised to find them out here after moving from the midwest

not liking soup is a crime. Do you like ramen?

― rip van wanko, Friday, 12 October 2018 03:30 (seven years ago)
I like ramen and udon but I always do the bukkake *sigh* style. And if I make instant ramen at home I pour out the broth.
― Yerac, Friday, 12 October 2018 03:33 (seven years ago)
Dont know how I missed this thread first go round.
I WILL EAT BECHAMEL ON ITS OWN OUT OF THE POT.
But I have to have made it myself obv. And it has to be spoon-standing thick. Comparing it to mayo upthread was utterly weird. Bechamel has no eggs* or vinegar in it.
*yes I have seen lasagne/bake recipes where it does.
― Stoop Crone (Trayce), Friday, 12 October 2018 03:43 (seven years ago)
Bukkake style is okay but i prefer nyumen, and then soumen
― F# A# (∞), Friday, 12 October 2018 03:58 (seven years ago)
I like the coldness of somen and the dipping. I prefer cold noodles.
― Yerac, Friday, 12 October 2018 12:13 (seven years ago)
rice is so useless
― mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Friday, 12 October 2018 12:22 (seven years ago)
Maybe once, it was a persian saffron chicken dish.
Rice is just, whatever. I am not one of those asians that eats it every day to feel complete.
― Yerac, Friday, 12 October 2018 12:28 (seven years ago)
Bukkake style is okay
I like the coldness of somen
A small double take there.

Japanese rice is the best in the world and if you have some fancy rice in japan, the difference is totally noticeable — it just tastes that much betterIt’s hard to eat white rice in north american asian restaurants after getting used to the fancy stuff
― F# A# (∞), Friday, 12 October 2018 13:43 (seven years ago)
I've been to Japan for a month. The rice is fine. I've been to Taiwan for in total maybe 6 months of my life. The rice is fine. Blech.
― Yerac, Friday, 12 October 2018 13:48 (seven years ago)
Lasagna with bechamel should be called bukkake style. I hate having to order ramen bukkake in american restaurants even though it's on the menu.
― Yerac, Friday, 12 October 2018 13:56 (seven years ago)
Lasagna with bechamel should be illegal.
Plenty of Japanese mostly skip the soup part of ramen, e.g. at Jiro-style places.
― droit au butt (Euler), Friday, 12 October 2018 14:38 (seven years ago)
I’ve literally had like a dozen types of rice all different quality in the course of a a couple months and if you can’t tell the difference you’re 1 mixing it with other stronger flavors and/or 2 you haven’t had someone to guide you through the differences in flavorIt’s like wine in some ways
― F# A# (∞), Friday, 12 October 2018 14:46 (seven years ago)
No, I get it. I still don't like rice.

That said I am going to eat the shit out of some handrolls today. I actually make good sushi rice. Rice is still trash though.

I am staying with my singaporean friend and he keeps making me daily rice even though i have explicitly stated over the last decade that I hate rice. We joke about it and then make a date to have the same conversation the next day.
― Yerac, Friday, 12 October 2018 14:57 (seven years ago)
What about korean purple rice ugh🤤
― F# A# (∞), Friday, 12 October 2018 14:58 (seven years ago)
Even when I was in India I passed on the rice every single time.
― Yerac, Friday, 12 October 2018 14:59 (seven years ago)
And fuck risotto. Waste of cheese and time.
Can’t take this much h8
― F# A# (∞), Friday, 12 October 2018 15:00 (seven years ago)
Since I moved back from China I cannot get used to the rice in the UK, its all dry, flavourless long-grain stuff. The only acceptable stuff in supermarkets is the Thai fragrant rice, and even that isn't really what I want. Luckily we have a Korean shop not far off, and I just buy bags of imported "sushi rice" these days, that will do. My wife, who has eaten rice every day in her life, does not care for rice of any sort, but has been buying basmati as it is a change at least, but unless it's used in chaofan I find it a bit of a slog to eat.
― mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Friday, 12 October 2018 15:04 (seven years ago)
Give your wife a hi-five for me. She knows what's up.

Basmati rice is like the mcdonalds of rice jesus christI feel for u man
― F# A# (∞), Friday, 12 October 2018 15:07 (seven years ago)
We agree 90% about food, but that other 10% we really don't agree on. We can't have risotto in the house because it's "Italian pigswill rice" apparently, and I am not allowed to make any sort of lasagne as she views it as an abomination.

I have had amazing risotto before, but most have been awful, get the ingredients or timings wrong and it's a disaster.
― mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Friday, 12 October 2018 15:14 (seven years ago)
you've got your chicken, your cheddar broccoli, your herb & butter. Whole world of rice out there. Amazing that it's all grown in san francisco.
― for i, sock in enumerate (Sufjan Grafton), Friday, 12 October 2018 15:17 (seven years ago)
Rice is incredible & risotto is a top dish, what the hell is going on here.
― droit au butt (Euler), Friday, 12 October 2018 15:34 (seven years ago)
Rice in burritos is trash though, fuck SF
Yeah, I always try to leave the rice out of burritos. I did try to make one of those ramen burritos once but it wasn't great.
― Yerac, Friday, 12 October 2018 15:37 (seven years ago)
The rice (eg basmati) you get in america is grown in californiaJapan buys that rice in container loadsTo feed to their animalsBecause it’s not meant for japanese human consumption Good enough for americans to hail as good rice for a nice warm meal#fastfoodnation
― F# A# (∞), Friday, 12 October 2018 15:44 (seven years ago)
Unless it’s the imported the stuff of course
― F# A# (∞), Friday, 12 October 2018 15:45 (seven years ago)
I avoid risotto because it's almost always shit, but that's more down to British cooking, nothing against the dish in principle
― Colonel Poo, Friday, 12 October 2018 15:46 (seven years ago)
The rice (eg basmati) you get in america is grown in california
you know there are shops that sell basmati from a variety of places. have you ever been to an indian or pakistani market?
― marcos, Friday, 12 October 2018 15:46 (seven years ago)
Not only have i beenI used to cook indian food like a couple times a week for a few yearsI don’t like basmati but I didn’t realize it until i tried a variety of japanese rices
― F# A# (∞), Friday, 12 October 2018 15:48 (seven years ago)
I like basmati just fine but yeah it’s only since I started going to Japan regularly that I’ve really come to appreciate rice. We have a Zojirushi for it now. The Japanese rice we get here for a reasonable price is Italian, but it’s been judged ok by Japanese rice masters or whatever so shrug it’s goodRice from the Camargue is our local staple. We cook it by frying the grains first in a bit of oil and then when they turn golden brown add the water. Boiled rice is IMO inedible but this way, which I learned from my South American dad, is stupendous.
