Major shakeup in TNA

by Dave Meltzer

Dave@wrestlingobserver.com

The big surprise that will supposedly change the entire history and face of the industry that TNA is promoting for Sunday's PPV is the return of Vince Russo.

In a panic move driven by the decline in ratings (which has been across the board for every pro wrestling and MMA TV show and not specific to TNA), the company has hired Russo to join the booking committee. Russo will work with Dutch Mantel and Jeff Jarrett. Mike Tenay and Scott D'Amore have been taken off the committee. It's unclear where Jeremy Borash stands.

The company has given Russo guidelines that there can be no sleaze on its wrestling shows, whatever that is supposed to mean. The announcement will be made to the wrestlers over the weekend.

At this point it is unclear what this will mean as far as personnel, but there will likely be a shake-up there as well. At this point we have no indication that any major players will be quitting immediately over this, although some will likely not renew their deals. The announcement does kill dead the Bill Goldberg negotiations.

Sadly, he will be the next Alexis Petridish. (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 21 September 2006 17:53 (seventeen years ago) link

Wow. I tried watching TNA when Samoa Joe came in, but I can't stand the announcing team, the look and feel of the product and that I hated 80% of the roster. I honestly don't know why people go crazy about TNA since everything that's good about them can be found in ROH and much better at that.

TNA has two things going for it: Samoa Joe smacking the shit out of people, and Latin American Exchange lynching whiteboys. Jay Lethal and Eric Young also make for half decent babyfaces, if there were any heels to beat them up other than Alex Shelley. They are fucked. IWA:Mid South will be pulling bigger profits this time next fuck. Fuck, FWA will have bigger crowds in 2008.

Lex Luger and Buff Bagwell are both booked for the Monday television tapings.

This deal was done by Jeff Jarrett, and is likely unrelated to Vince Russo coming in. Neither Luger nor Bagwell knew anything about Russo coming in, and did not know what their role would be or if it would be a recurring role.

haven't watched any of the shows in quite a while. Just as long as Samoa Joe keeps getting attention.

Well he isn't, 'cause his NON-TITLE match is pretty much an afterthought for the Sting-Jarrett match on the PPV *after* the next one.

After watching just a handful of his ROH matches, it's too bad that he doesn't have that cockiness in TNA on top of the killing machine image.

I thought Russo was a Jesus freak these days? A Jesus freak who was fed up with sliminess of the wrestling business?

Nah, he was just working the religious masses. Swerve on Jesus.

So, yeah, Angle's gone to TNA then.
Probably not the best idea ever.

Taking Sides: Impact! tribute to Angle vs RAW tribute to Owen vs RAW tribute to Eddy

I vote for "Stevie Richards being criticised by WWE management for wearing a black armband just a week after Michael "Crash Holly" Lockwood dropped dead in his guest room".

Wellness, where art thou? Expect Angle to re-pack 30 pounds of bulk onto his body. Nevertheless, we'll all whores and will gladly pay $$$ to see Joe vs Angle.

Not before they make you pay $$$ to watch Angle/Jarrett

Actually killing someone with it might finally get the acoustic guitar shot over as a legit finisher.

samoa joe was the weirdest thing, since one of the guys in the local pro-wrestling watching group knew about him, and would bring tapes of his indie matches in. And then would talk about the guy's Livejournal.

it was great to see how he turned out.
