WWE 2023: Getting Ucey

Tbh I don’t really watch WWE but I thought I should start the thread with the others.

Wrestlemania nearly sold out, Vince wants back in but probably won’t happen, the first full year of Trips in charge, The Rock and Cena maybe back for WM, Cody’s return, Rey’s son still has a job, another year of Roman killing it at the top and most importantly, Sami Uso

God knows how they deal with Roman eventually losing the belt. I hope it’s not The Rock. How long was Bruno’s run again? I can see it only happening due to an injury, they don’t have any obvious contenders unless they really work hard at building someone like a Babyface Sami.

Also I forgot to mention Walter/Gunther who is pretty much the best reason to watch WWE these days. Supposedly he’s fighting Brock soon? If Brock can be bothered, that should be insane.

The rumor is that they're going to split the belts with him defending one on each night of Mania this year. Cody is the favorite for one of them, and I can only hope Sami gets the other, but I don't know if they'll ever pull the trigger on my man. I'm thinking that Sami & KO are going to be primed to beat The Usos for the tag belts and maybe, maybe Solo Sikoa turns and gets whatever belt Cody doesn't go for, though I imagine that they'll bring The Rock to Mania, as that's been the tease for so long now, even within "Young Rock" and interviews and such.

Well this is a pretty sensational turn of events

Oh boy this looks like a complete clusterfuck. Maybe I should finally watch Succession.

This tweet is the only exposure I've ever had to Succession.

Just want Shane to come back. He's my second favorite silver fox named Shane, and boy, do I miss him (even though he was actually a terrible booker, from what I understand).

Fucking hell I started this thread a couple days too early. Saudi Mania!

Stephanie’s already resigned. KO and Sami don’t work the Saudi shows, so I presume aren’t too happy about this.

Bring on the sports washing clusterfuck.

saudis sale apparently unconfirmed? what a meltdown everyone had about it last night

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Wednesday, 11 January 2023 14:26 (three weeks ago) link

Mostly I just love Vince trying to fuck everyone and everything over. There will never be a greater villain because he actually is one.

Godzilla: (laughs) You are a fool, Mozart. You will never defeat me. (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 11 January 2023 16:42 (three weeks ago) link

he is the worst man

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Wednesday, 11 January 2023 16:48 (three weeks ago) link

I wanna know if Stephanie resigned because (1) she and Vince are on the outs so if he's in, she's out, (2) she understands from a career perspective that being too closely affiliated with Vince from now on is cancerous, (3) she and Vince remain tight and she sat in his seat for 6 months until he'd got his ducks in a row to arrange the big comeback or (4) some other thing.

they're all monsters and Vince is, as Brad says, the worst, but holy shit what a fascinating mess this is

wouldn't surprise me if the Saudi thing ended up being true in the long run, if only because it seems so plausible that Vince has spent his sabbatical working out how he can work his position in order to simultaneously make bank and regain control of his company while not having to answer to shareholders or the board for his past/current behaviour in a way that he might have to with a US buyer. but who knows?! could be total bullshit

Windsor Davies, Wednesday, 11 January 2023 17:02 (three weeks ago) link

This is just my wild speculation based on the rumors, but the Saudi thing makes sense to me since they are very into Vince era things (save for the women). Not sure if this was truth or rumor, but allegedly, with the first Saudi show, they requested many legendary talents, a few of which had already passed away (years prior).

Part of those rumors is that Vince shopped around to them with the condition that he be put back in charge of creative, because you will have to rip the WWE out of Vincent Kennedy McMahon's cold, dead hands.

2023 already about to be wild. I'm still cautiously excited for Royal Rumble, but that's with the expectation that Jay White shows up.

Ucey in the Sky With Diamonds (hourspass), Wednesday, 11 January 2023 18:19 (three weeks ago) link

Jay White in WWE would be a crying shame

He’s clearly done what he can in NJPW and needs a change but WWE is certainly not the answer

Windsor Davies, Wednesday, 11 January 2023 18:40 (three weeks ago) link

I'm somewhat inclined to agree, but I do think that it would be kind of cool to see how he interacts with the other two Bullet Club leaders that he missed.

Not sure where else he would go, though, that would feel like a "step-up" so to speak. AEW is there, but with The Elite running it, I just don't know how that will mesh. That might just be my bias towards NJPW, though.

Ucey in the Sky With Diamonds (hourspass), Wednesday, 11 January 2023 18:57 (three weeks ago) link

depends what youre after I suppose, as it always has.

if he goes to WWE i'm sure he will have a big world title feud and then a decent run at the IC/US title level, same as Styles, Balor, Nakamura - it's actually a pretty well-trod path now

whereas i'm sure AEW would treat him as a top level guy in their own canon but i have no idea if that would be considered preferable given the AEW shitshow these last 12 monthds

Windsor Davies, Wednesday, 11 January 2023 19:39 (three weeks ago) link

No-one seems to mention that Jay White actually had a couple matches in AEW last year, where they could have talked about him coming full time. I guess it shows how likely he is to join WWE.

Godzilla: (laughs) You are a fool, Mozart. You will never defeat me. (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 11 January 2023 19:51 (three weeks ago) link

idk about that, at the time there was no prospect of him leaving NJPW full time. iirc Tony went a bit too big promising some major Forbidden Door surprise and realised too late that he'd misjudged how the fanbase would interpret that phrase and felt the need to deliver so Jay White got brought in for a few weeks to cover for TK's fuck up.

but it's pretty evident that he would be more valued and would fare better in AEW rather than WWE, if he really is done for now with NJPW. for one thing, NJPW treat achievements in NJPW as though they actually mean something

Windsor Davies, Wednesday, 11 January 2023 20:29 (three weeks ago) link

*AEW treats achievements in NJPW.... etc.

Windsor Davies, Wednesday, 11 January 2023 20:30 (three weeks ago) link

I think maybe I've been too poisoned by wrestling twitter, as I see a lot of that fanbase question the NJPW stars that come to AEW. AEW's working relationship with NJPW has been steadily improving, as shown by their sending talent over, as well as Forbidden Door last year (which my friend went to).

In any case, I'm tempted to go to Rumble this year, though I'd have nosebleed seats. I'm anticipating that it will be pretty interesting.

Ucey in the Sky With Diamonds (hourspass), Friday, 13 January 2023 18:54 (three weeks ago) link

The rumours that the Khans are interested in buying WWE is possibly even funnier than Saudi Arabia

yeah that would be the best possible ending to the saga wouldn't it

xp to HP - you mean that AEW fans aren't convinced by the wrestlers coming in from NJPW? Or that NJPW fans aren't convinced that those guys benefit to any great extent from the exposure?

I think fundamentally there is an alignment between AEW and NJPW such that any act appearing on both shows will be presented in the same way (entrance music, gear, nicknames, gimmick, overall presentation) and more or less presented at a similar level on the card. it feels like a single extended universe.

that is simply not how WWE does things. idk what Jay White's ceiling would be in WWE but you can pretty much guarantee that it would be lower than anywhere else he chooses to work, where he will be presented as a top guy no matter which company he ends up in

Windsor Davies, Friday, 13 January 2023 20:23 (three weeks ago) link

xp I would pop huge if the AEW Khans end up buying WWE, though I would worry for Uncle Tony (Khan), as he already sometimes seems a bit, uh, frazzled. Maybe that's just his energy always? I don't know the guy personally, but...

Windsor: Sorry to cross streams, as it were, as I know this is the WWE thread. I'd say that I have seen AEW fans being unconvinced by the wrestlers from NJPW, because their styles are so different (not necessarily TV focused in the way some other performers have learned to be). I do agree that AEW and NJPW have been trying to present talents similarly, though, of course, audience reception leans towards the talents that are there every week.

Agree that Jay White's ceiling in WWE is much lower, because they will strip away a lot of what makes him so effective as a performer, mostly because a good deal of it isn't necessarily as family friendly as they aim to be. I don't consume as much WWE anymore, compared to how much I watch other promotions, so I'm a little bit less invested in things there, aside from witnessing the possible carnage of the current shakeups.

Rumble is still my favorite PPV of the year, and I actually just looked at flights an hour ago to go over there, and I can actually do it over a weekend without missing work, so I might actually bite the bullet and go. It's still a few weeks off, so we'll see how the chips fall with all of these rumors going around. I think the stakes are pretty high, so it will either be amazing or the worst rumble ever, and I kind of want to be part of that either way.

Ucey in the Sky With Diamonds (hourspass), Friday, 13 January 2023 21:20 (three weeks ago) link

I can’t imagine it’ll be the worst rumble ever but who knows? Last year was a complete stinker but the one before it (I think) was amazing. I guess it depends on how much they have their shit together and whether stuff like Jay White, stuff like The Rock possibly returning or people like Cody are ready to return.

Godzilla: (laughs) You are a fool, Mozart. You will never defeat me. (a hoy hoy), Saturday, 14 January 2023 01:47 (three weeks ago) link

Well a kid puked in my classroom today, so I've decided that I am going to Rumble after all.

Raw XXX has been interesting. One of our local guys was featured with the Bloodline tonight, so that was cool!

Ucey in the Sky With Diamonds (hourspass), Tuesday, 24 January 2023 05:37 (one week ago) link

It’s Rumble day! I just presumed it would be a Sunday.

I’ve not been sleeping well recently, so chances are I may end up watching a bit of it live in the next couple hours. Despite having not watched in years, I’m excited. Do they fuck the crowd like when Daniel Bryan got eliminated early that one year or does Sami Zayn do it for the orphans? I’m sure there are other matches and reasons to watch too, such as is Baron Corbin still around? He was like a Hawaiian hobo or something last time I watched.

Ok so far this has been fun as hell. Surprising amount of beefcake, former winners and former champions who could be legitimate winners. The ramp is really long and kinda cuts out time for spots though and the quick camera cuts have missed a couple things. Also I think they messed up the kofi spot.

That was a good rumble! Shame it’s being followed by Bray v the guy who did Rock impressions in tna

And that’s if this Mountain Dew match ever started. Also it’s in a rave?

What in the wrestlecrap is this

Really hope the fans start shitting on this. It’s literally in the dark. No way the majority of the crowd can see this. Hell I can hardly see it.

Fucking hell they just jizzed Mountain Dew everywhere

“I have no idea what I just saw”

The commentators are trying but are still saying this. Fuuuck that was the dumbest thing since… Vince was obsessed with an egg?

was this planned before Vince came back?

why the hell was the Rumble match first? I missed it!

maf you one two (maffew12), Sunday, 29 January 2023 02:55 (one week ago) link

And now a 5 minute Brock video? Between the rumble and the last match was like a 15 minute video. They genuinely could have got another match in. I guess it took forever to change the neon paint.

i still cannot get over that ending. utter perfection. i don't think wwe has a better set of performers equipped to handle this storyline.

Western® with Bacon Flavor, Monday, 30 January 2023 01:06 (one week ago) link

It was a thing of beauty. I liked that it was left open too. Roman could realistically fight Jey, Cody or Sami at Wrestlemania and make a great main event. It's a little bit of a shame Cody is attached actually, as he has nothing to do with such a hot storyline but he is the hottest non-bloodline thing they have going and you want to build that momentum.

xxp to Godzilla: The Wyatt match was, predictably, the piss break. Everyone left in droves since all we could see was the glowing ropes and L.A. Knight's trunks.

Wrestlemania is two nights again, so I'm thinking Sami night one, Cody night two, since they've been building up Cody's return for a while now.

Elimination Chamber is in Montreal, so I'm imagining that Sami wins a #1 contender's chamber match for the Universal Championship, and within a few weeks, Cody will declare that he'll challenge for the WWE title.

The two rumble matches were pretty okay, and somewhat predictable as far as outcomes, but the ending of the show definitely made this PPV.

Ucey in the Sky With Diamonds (hourspass), Monday, 30 January 2023 18:30 (one week ago) link

Another great Roman-Sami interaction on Smackdown, leading to an Elimination Chamber match between the 2 of them. This has got me hyped enough to watch 3 PPVs in a row. If only sex pest Vince didn’t come back, I’d have maybe considered getting the network again and not just illegally streaming em online.
