These are the true stars of what I think has been the greatest year of American wrestling in my lifetime.
Eddie was in a terrific tag team with Moxley, had possibly the best catchphrase of the year (REDEEM DEEZ NUTS) and had incredible singles matches with Miro, Bryan and a five star brawl with Punk.
Britt Baker has been champion most of the year, really elevating the women’s division. Her relationship with Tony Schiavone has warmed all our hearts and the Lights Out match with Thunder Rosa was an absolute must watch.
Last year Miro seemed like a has-been. This year he has transformed himself into a beast unlike no other. Feuding with God himself, he’s also had memorable matches with Eddie, Sammy, Bryan and some of the best squash matches I’ve seen in ages.
Kenny Omega shaved his beard to look like the Omega symbol. I guess He also wrestled in some of the greatest wrestling matches I’ve ever seen.
Serena Deeb started the year well but then unfortunately was out for a couple months with a knee injury. But once she bounced back, she has been possibly the best technical wrestler on the roster. My pick for next year, although maybe I have under appreciated her this year. Incredible matches against Riho and Shida.
Jungle Boy is best friends with a dinosaur. Not only that, he had a classic title match with Kenny that was a great start to the year. He’s starting to really grow, just getting a 5 star rating from Meltzer for the match against the Super Kliq that I’ve still somehow not watched. Another to bet on in 2022.
CM Punk had possibly the great executed, hotly anticipated, holy shit moment in wrestling to happen since the fucking 90s. His return was a joyous experience that I think we’ll remember for years. Also had some clinics with Eddie and Darby.
Hangman Page has had 2 classics in the past month, beating Omega for the title and going an hour with Bryan. But more importantly this Cowboy has won us over all year, him and his purple buddies.
Thunder Rosa had already been in a 5 star classic in AEW… before she even signed with them halfway through the year. After the Lights Out match she has been entertaining whoever she has faced and potentially in line to be a champion next year, whether it’s taking Britt’s belt or finishing her great run in TBS tournament.
Jon Moxley may have been cheated out the title by those Elite scumbags last year but he still made sure to be wildly entertaining in 2021. The exploding barb wire match was insane (until that poor ending), his tags with Eddie were great (especially one classic against the Bucks) and to top it off, he was able to introduce some Japanese legends through the forbidden door.
Daniel Garcia - well shoot, someone on the other thread mentioned why he’s had a great year. A real star for the future and really entertaining but I don’t think I’m the man to write him up.
Bryan fucking Danielson. This fucking guy. Maybe he also did something before September, who knows.
Darby Allin, Sting’s lil buddy, is like a fucking rocket. Seriously, if you wanted to vote for him just on his suicide dive, that would be cool with me. But he’s also seen his character grow and had great matches with just about everyone this year. He even made Ethan Page kinda interesting. The Punk match was the real show stopper though.
