aew was my favorite thing about 2019 and i’m excited for what they have in store next. i love the new-to-me talent, especially darby allin and kris statlander, as well as the faith they seem to have in their audience. anyone else watching?

I fell out of regularly watching Dynamite towards the end of the year because it felt a bit too idk Indie Wrestling The TV Show
Just enzuigiris and cutters and superkicks and kicking out of head drops regardless of card placement etc, you know? It was all just blending together a bit, especially with all the stables, and they didn't seem to be using their top talent very effectively outside of Mox/Jericho
I thought the New Year's Day episode was fantastic though, just a procession of rock solid TV matches with good stories
Also it is really nice hearing Tony Schiavone on TV seemingly enjoying himself, and it's the only place you can (contemporaneously) watch Dustin Rhodes doing punches

this week’s episode made it clear that they’re really taking the (constructive) criticism to heart. i’m excited for the next few weeks, especially the cruise episode. i think they should use more unconventional venues, too.

between dynamite and the current iteration of nxt.... i'm a huge wrestling fan now

They've really hit their stride with Dynamite now. People were excited for an episode of TV tha wasn't even the big PPV to finally come round! And then it delivered! Feels weird
They also just blew through having the first trans world champion like it wasn't really a thing, and the old man commentators were (justifiably) really excited about the match
Everything Dustin Rhodes does looks good, including standing up slowly
Elsewhere, Matt Hardy should probably just retire but if he does turn up in AEW I have a firm and possibly inexplicable belief that he should continue to sell his neck injury from WWE

That was a good PPV
Give me ten minute Dustin Rhodes matches that come in at the exact three snowflakes the show requires...for the rest of time
What do you do with Anxious Millennial Tweener Cowboy after that (frankly incredible) piece of business, I wonder

darby v. sammy was so great, even appreciated commentary's selling of allin's botched dive. i love the idea of vince agonizing over how to get his next star to pop like orange cassidy.

wfh means i can have wrestling on all the time so i'm catching up from the start (except BTE you can't pay me to watch that)
halfway through double or nothing, absolutely incredible PPV so far constantly on the verge of being ruined by alex marvez, the worst possible person for the job

Hopefully they shut this stuff down soon for health reasons, but hopefully it also gives them some time to reflect and confront the sad reality that this Matt Hardy stuff is garbage

Not really AEW but STARDOM's Hana Kimura has died aged 22, apparently taking her own life amid some inexplicably vicious reality TV-related cyerbullying
I saw her wrestle for EVE in Bethnal Green in 2018 and she had subsequently pivoted to this cyber-goth look and had a ton of charisma and potential
She opened the wrestle kingdom card in a dark match this year and would almost certainly have become a much bigger star
A stunningly miserable situation

really enjoyed double or nothing. i’m rewatching the stadium stampede now
― maura, Sunday, 24 May 2020 15:21 (one month ago) link
yeah, really great show top-to-bottom, can't remember when I saw a better. it had a little bit of everything.
MJF and Jungle Boy were a total revelation - I had preemptively pigeon-holed MJF as a better, funnier version of the Miz which is to say not that good a wrestler as such, and Jungle Boy I figured at age 22 was gonna be mostly energy and high spots without much substance. but that match was an absolute clinic! smartly worked, great pacing, strong character beats, awesome counters, the whole shebang. they both came off as a big time stars.
i definitely need to rewatch the Stadium Stampede. in the moment it felt like pretty much the greatest wrestling anything that I'd ever seen and I am pretty confident I won't be revising that opinion on repeat viewings. it was already a 10/10 just from the entrances, the cheerleaders, the Inner Circle coming out in full uniforms, Kenny immediately breaking his broom over Ortiz's helmet and so on. then Hangman riding in on the horse sent the whole thing into the stratosphere. the entire sequence with Matt Hardy, Santana and Ortiz in the swimming pool absolutely sent me, i couldn't breathe for laughing. the whole thing lived up to the expectations and then some. just incredible.

every single stray thought i had during the stampede "oh wouldnt it be awesome if they did that" they went right ahead and did, with brilliant execution. such a joy. the opposite in every respect of the way that WWE does things (Boneyard match excepted I guess)

The company’s been running laps around WWE in terms of handling the characters/storylines during these audience-free shows.
