Heaven on the Seventh Floor- Paul Nicholas

I was pretty surprised to hear "I Know There's Something Going On" by Frida in Safeway recently.

kkvgz, Saturday, 16 October 2010 13:49 (fifteen years ago)

that's pretty cool

i think they've done studies showing that people buy more asparagus when exposed to swedish pop music

(there's an uncropped version of this picture with a sign in Swedish that Babelfish's as 'Green Objects', which I suppose includes asparagus)

i find that picture to be strangely alluring

duh and the music was playing as well, of course...

Les centimètres énigmatiques (snoball), Thursday, 4 November 2010 13:35 (fifteen years ago)

I mean, it wasn't some loony on the PA system reading out the words.

not shoppin, technically, but rocky raccoon in mcdonald's canal st. and dude is fuckng rocking out to it, man. if there were an upright piano in the restaurant, he would be dancing on top of it, i'm fairly certain

pluperfect (del), Saturday, 27 November 2010 11:36 (fifteen years ago)

Are you on 77, del? Cause that information would definitely be welcome in the Whiney/Beatles thread.

Avatar: The Last SBanner (kkvgz), Saturday, 27 November 2010 12:19 (fifteen years ago)

no, i guess i need to put in a request for access over there... that was a great moment, though . i'm kinda glad i documented it here. years ago i heard alone again or by love in a mcdonald's but that got a much more subdued response

pluperfect (del), Sunday, 28 November 2010 17:31 (fifteen years ago)

I would be surprised like hell to hear either of those in a McD's.

Avatar: The Last SBanner (kkvgz), Monday, 29 November 2010 10:06 (fifteen years ago)

I Love You Always Forever- Donna Lewis

This woman was walking down the sidewalk this morning talking on her cellphone and I heard her say "Oh really? Well, that's my number one hangover cure-- I have a fatty..." and then poof! She was out of earshot right after that word...so I was left wondering if she meant she chose to smoke a "fatty" to cure her hangovers or if she ate a fatty breakfast. I guess she was probably just advising her friend to eat scrapple.

dell (del), Sunday, 17 April 2011 15:53 (fifteen years ago)

I've heard Camera Obscura pretty much every other shopping trip in the past 18 months in the Bay Area. Doesn't matter what shop, I will hear them somewhere.

Not the real Village People, Sunday, 17 April 2011 18:20 (fifteen years ago)

Not sure if this counts but I always enjoy hearing "My Ever Changing Moods" when it plays occasionally at work.

corey, Sunday, 17 April 2011 19:05 (fifteen years ago)

I like less hearing 10 Jason Mraz songs a day. His music is like that annoying kid you went to high school with who was in all the AP classes and wore sandals with pre-stressed jeans every day of the year.

oh man, i want to work at a place like that

i remember my friend texted me once a few years ago to tell me that she was in macy's and that song was playing!

guess what america?? guess who fcking heard the following songs in the effing grocery store earlier tonight??

lowdown- boz scaggs
jet- macca / wings

yeh, effing me, that's who

in your face america

in your face!! :D

dell (del), Tuesday, 23 August 2011 03:23 (fourteen years ago)

boz scaggs is one of my top ten grocery store musical artists.

yesterday in a department store i heard:
funky cold medina (tone loc)
followed by
copperhead road (steve earle)
followed by
you give love a bad name (bon jovi)
followed by
i don't know because i left but i was braced for anything.

there was a likeable thin middle-aged sales clerk with a handlebar moustache and a glinting ear who became animated and sang a little during copperhead road but then sank into a lugubrious state when bon jovi commenced, i didn't see what he got up to during funky cold medina because he was lurking behind a rack of jackets. he struck me as someone who is skilled at looking busy, which is a talent i envy.

estela, Thursday, 25 August 2011 04:43 (fourteen years ago)

i heard somebody's watching me by rockwell while standing in line earlier tonight

dell (del), Thursday, 25 August 2011 04:53 (fourteen years ago)

estela, Thursday, 25 August 2011 10:02 (fourteen years ago)

i am glad to hear that. it's been working out quite well for me, all things considered.

dell (del), Friday, 26 August 2011 06:58 (fourteen years ago)

Filtered through the PA system of a store is probably the optimal way to hear miss you as it blows, particularly if you watch the video at the same time.

I wonder whose bright idea it was to remove the guitar riff from Lulu's version and replace it with a flatulent sax?

I've just remembered, when I was in Lisbon, I went for a meal and the kinda hippyish waiter played all sorts of good music but I especially remember he played "Maggot Brain", which was cool.

I was visiting my sister in Scotland at the weekend and we were in her local pub in the village she lives in, on a busy Friday night, and "Maggot Brain" was played!

You can tell it's the Friday evening before a Bank Holiday weekend because the supermarket was rowdy and full of teenagers, including one 14 year old lad riding a bicycle down the aisle until I eyeballed him and then he was just wheeling it down the aisle. Soundtrack: Belinda Carlisle's 'Live Your Life Be Free' at even louder volume than normal.

This is an unlikely one. "Aren't You Glad", from "The Family That Plays Together" by Spirit, in an extremely un-hipsterish pub in Paisley. Also it's literally the only music that's

There's a ILX thread somewhere that has a post about how Steely Dan's 'Hey Nineteen' is the kind of song that you'd hear in a supermarket. Well this morning I heard this song in my local Tesco's.
Then this afternoon (I get to nick off work early on Fridays if I've worked late earlier in the week) I heard in the shopping centre 'Money' by Flying Lizards follow immediately by ABBA's 'Dancing Queen'.
