Okay it's not like I am a fan of the word "selfie" to begin with but how the hell can you call a picture a "selfie" if the person taking it isn't in it?

this is such a weird genre and they really run the gamut from hilarious to sad, mostly just weird. agreed with m bison that there the performative nature of selfies is really amplified by this subject matter, too.

There's a thing called #trashthedress, but sometimes it's just "a style of wedding photography that contrasts elegant clothing with an environment in which it is out of place," as Wikipedia says, or it's all about divorce photoshoots.

I've had two mostly amicable breakups (pre-"selfie" terminology) where we took a last photo together. The first half-dozen or so of these are deceptively fine, and I have no problem with the general concept. After that it gets horrible and that's why pplains is so amazing.
