Suzy: get an electric frypan! Theyre awesomely handy for no-kitchen situations, I find. In a pinch you can almost even cook pasta in them (its a little slow though).

suzy - I can empathasize ... our bathroom got ripped out last summer ... we got the landlord to let us use the facilities in an open unit downstairs.

I am really dreading nearly three weeks of having a refrigerator, microwave, toaster and kettle setup in the main room of my studio, where I also sleep (sunny, don't you have rooms where you can go to avoid the construction carnage?). The building-wide renovations are also a surprise to me, as I spent a great deal of time and effort about eight months ago decorating my kitchen myself. We have a choice of fittings but my DIY effort is about a million times more Elle Deco than what's on offer, and that worries me. I don't generally do beige floors unless they are made of herringbone parquet.

After that I have to have horrible basal cell carcinoma removed from my back (it is small, I am not worried) and that's two weeks of NO REAL BATH while the stitches heal.

yuk, that sounds awful ...

So gross. It is not fair to miss a bathtub during Fashion Week ;-).

lacoste intolerant (suzy), Monday, 14 September 2009 09:19 (sixteen years ago)

do you have a shower?

Suggest Bander-Meinhof Complex (sarahel), Monday, 14 September 2009 09:26 (sixteen years ago)

No shower - water pressure in the UK isn't what it could be, considering how surrounded by water we are here.

lacoste intolerant (suzy), Monday, 14 September 2009 09:33 (sixteen years ago)

it isn't against the law for the landlord/property manager/whoever to leave you without running water for that long?

Suggest Bander-Meinhof Complex (sarahel), Monday, 14 September 2009 09:39 (sixteen years ago)

They will actually remove and replace the bath and toilet and sink the first day but it will be like trying to wash in a dust storm until they do the rest.

lacoste intolerant (suzy), Monday, 14 September 2009 09:55 (sixteen years ago)

that's pretty great that they can/will do that in one day ...

Suggest Bander-Meinhof Complex (sarahel), Monday, 14 September 2009 09:57 (sixteen years ago)

It's a public works project so they have to. If there is a problem, I will ask for some kind of vouchers to use the showers at the local pool.

oh i didnt mean the construction. just the cooking appliances. in fact i dont use a toaster or kettle either and the microwave is optional.

Hillary had Everest in his veins (sunny successor), Monday, 14 September 2009 13:20 (sixteen years ago)

The problem here is NO OVEN for three weeks, and a living room stuffed with kitchen-based appliances.

lacoste intolerant (suzy), Monday, 14 September 2009 13:35 (sixteen years ago)

Its a good excuse to get home delivery every night! :)

sarahel, Monday, 30 November 2009 00:25 (sixteen years ago)

i was just telling what i think girls talk about. they talk about home products and menstruating all the time

harbl, Monday, 30 November 2009 00:29 (sixteen years ago)

girls also talk about dumb things guys do.

sarahel, Monday, 30 November 2009 00:31 (sixteen years ago)

also sex and hangovers, from my experience

sarahel, Monday, 30 November 2009 00:33 (sixteen years ago)

The Neb-U-Taunt Ball is one of my favorite display names in the universe

harbl, Monday, 30 November 2009 00:34 (sixteen years ago)

it makes me think of the phrase "dances with Neb" - and I picture him in a civil war uniform telling the native american tribe where to find the best deer to hunt and lecturing them on blended haircuts.

sarahel, Monday, 30 November 2009 00:37 (sixteen years ago)

i love that post harbl, the one ending in lol

and then he hooks up with the native american girl and they "get their groove on" to Phish

sarahel, Monday, 30 November 2009 00:44 (sixteen years ago)

and then he lectures her on how her taste in animal skins is inferior because of her class position.

sarahel, Monday, 30 November 2009 00:45 (sixteen years ago)

loool. tbh i would watch this movie and probably laugh hysterically.

afa the i can c (roxymuzak), Monday, 30 November 2009 00:48 (sixteen years ago)

i think i need advice on hair conditioner. i have curly hair - that is thick and dry - there are too many brands of conditioner. i have no clue what kind to get.

sarahel, Monday, 30 November 2009 00:54 (sixteen years ago)

or maybe a more general - girl type question for everyone - how often do you wash your hair?

sarahel, Monday, 30 November 2009 00:55 (sixteen years ago)

my sister has thick, curly hair and she uses bumble and bumble super-rich conditioner.

horseshoe, Monday, 30 November 2009 00:57 (sixteen years ago)

where would you buy this? i haven't heard of it.

sarahel, Monday, 30 November 2009 01:00 (sixteen years ago)

i thought of having a thread about soap because i like soap for some reason
i've been using trader joe's tea tree tingle shampoo and conditioner lately (cheap) but i don't have curly hair
was washing my hair only twice a week earlier this year but i hate how you have to train it not to get greasy and it gets untrained right away if you happen to wash your hair too much so now i do it every day

harbl, Monday, 30 November 2009 01:00 (sixteen years ago)

sarahel, you can get it at most salons and sometimes at drugstores/target/etc. it is pricey, though.

horseshoe, Monday, 30 November 2009 01:00 (sixteen years ago)

i almost never wash my hair anymore tbh. like once-twice a week.

horseshoe, Monday, 30 November 2009 01:01 (sixteen years ago)

i'm addicted to it :(

harbl, Monday, 30 November 2009 01:01 (sixteen years ago)

i mean, i'm a little gross these days, so

horseshoe, Monday, 30 November 2009 01:02 (sixteen years ago)

Every day. It looks like crap if I don't.

bear say hi to me (ENBB), Monday, 30 November 2009 01:02 (sixteen years ago)

i wash my hair every day or i feel gross.

tehresa, Monday, 30 November 2009 01:02 (sixteen years ago)

yeah twice a week for me. it's kinda fun actually - because it's only curly the first day, and then after two or three days, i have more or less straight hair.

sarahel, Monday, 30 November 2009 01:02 (sixteen years ago)

See my hair is pin straight and just starts to look weird and flat if I don't wash it. Also, what Tza said about feeling gross.

bear say hi to me (ENBB), Monday, 30 November 2009 01:03 (sixteen years ago)

my hair was always like that until i cut it all off; now it looks better when it's dirty? so weird
