I've had mullet-phobia since 1987. That summer, before I started 8th grade, my family took it's every-three-years-or-so vacation to the UK, and while I was there, I got a haircut. It was a mullet. It was a cute haircut for about 2 hours. I spent a couple years growing it out. Since then, I've always cut my hair long in front and shorter in back to avoid even the remotest possibility of mullet.

My cousin went to Europe a few summers back, and she and the two or three others she was travelling with all got haircuts - they all got mullet-ed except for her, but she had to be extremely firm about it.

Is it some anti-foreigner thing, or do European hairdressers give mullets to everyone?

Fashion mullets were really big in the UK a few years back actually.

one of my good female friends had a subtle mullet a couple years ago ... I felt like we weren't close enough at the time for me to bring up its essential mullet nature.

"grim parsons" <---new JBR display name!

going vogue (suzy), Friday, 3 July 2009 15:27 (seventeen years ago)

When I was little I let my best friend cut my bangs and well . . . it did not go well. I started crying and she handed me a pair of sunglasses and told me to put them on. When I did she said, "Oh it's ok now! You look like the lady in Top Gun!".

some american borad (ENBB), Friday, 3 July 2009 15:29 (seventeen years ago)

haha @ grim parsons, that will make a very fitting nickname for a guy in my town, thank you

OMG this thread!

Harriet the Spy is one of the best novels.

Does anyone like Norma Klein? In my favorite, one girl starts baby sitting for her science teacher, they have an affair & his wife dies. Her friend starts dating a someone from the debate team, and I think she ends up having an abortion.

tokyo rosemary, Monday, 6 July 2009 01:06 (seventeen years ago)

If the humidity is doing this to MY hair it must be hell for people who actually have wavy/curly hair

I dunno, I like the way my hair gets crazy curly.

tokyo rosemary, Monday, 6 July 2009 01:10 (seventeen years ago)

welcome TR!!!!!!!!!!

gucci gone bonkers (roxymuzak), Monday, 6 July 2009 02:10 (seventeen years ago)

hello TR!

Tomorrow my onerous task is to interview four young, gifted and black supermodels about Michelle Obama. No Naomi, I said 'young'.

going vogue (suzy), Monday, 6 July 2009 16:33 (seventeen years ago)

omg Norma Klein i loved her books! they were all grown-up 70s-sexy and they seemed super-progressive and kind of unbelievable to me.

I tried dyeing my hair with cranberry juice, and it didn't work at all.

Whenever I see Ian Svenonius' name, I will always think of him as the Sassiest Boy in America.
