Oh speaking of pain and bikini area hair removal, I'm going to go find one of my first ever posts about the one and only time I've allowed a small eastern European woman anywhere near my vulva with hot wax . . .

you only live once
― bubbrubbplatestyle (roxymuzak), Monday, 22 June 2009 04:42 (seventeen years ago)
I want to be ok with bikini waxing, I really do. I've only had one experience with it though and I think it has left me scarred for life. I am not sure what I was expecting but it certainly didn't involve winding up on my hands and knees, holding my cheeks apart while a small Brazillian woman got closer to my bits than any gynaecologist ever has. Did I mention that the room had mirrors on all the walls? The whole situation resembled something out of a medical fetish porno. *shudders* That said, the results were fantastic. Until I get over that particular waxing experience, I'm sticking with shaving/trimming.
― Fennec fox which does grooming (ENBB), Monday, 22 June 2009 04:44 (seventeen years ago)
Listen, I don't think you've really lived until you find yourself spreading your own ass cheeks apart in a smalled room with mirrored walls while a middle-aged lady pours hot wax all over your genitals so yeah . . . it was an experience all right.
― Fennec fox which does grooming (ENBB), Monday, 22 June 2009 04:46 (seventeen years ago)
btw - I have since had this done in much tamer and nicer settings. I'm still not convinced that first time wasn't an elaborate hoax and that' I'm not an unwitting star in some b-grade porno somewhere.
― Fennec fox which does grooming (ENBB), Monday, 22 June 2009 04:51 (seventeen years ago)
mirrored walls!??!?!
― bubbrubbplatestyle (roxymuzak), Monday, 22 June 2009 05:02 (seventeen years ago)

― Fennec fox which does grooming (ENBB), Monday, 22 June 2009 05:02 (seventeen years ago)
surely it was a bit of a red flag when she went from being eastern european to brazilian mid-procedure.
― estela, Monday, 22 June 2009 05:08 (seventeen years ago)
You're right, I should have left right then.

Ftr, my favorite nkotb was Joey and we have the same birthday. One time I dreamed that he called me and then we met up and he gave me a kiss.

Jordan.
Anyone else remember YM? It was edited by Bonnie Fuller, who later became the evil gossip queen of US Weekly. Denise Richards was in ads for Bonne Bell. I was jealous of her, she had brown hair and blue eyes, which at the time I thought was the most perfect conceivable hair/eye color combination.
Sassy was better, obvs.
― sciolism, Monday, 22 June 2009 12:14 (seventeen years ago)
Yes I remember all those but yeah, Sassy was my favorite.

I'm pretty sassy though so it makes sense.
i remember seventeen and ym. i didn't feel like they were relevant to my life. maybe sassy would have been more but i wasn't very sassy. i don't really remember anything about being a child or teenager. is that weird?

We should probably just start telling first period stories. I don't think the boys will want in on that.

i remember desperately wanting one of those charm necklaces, but i don't think i ever got one. i was obsessed with the little fake lipsticks for some reason. it's weird how grown women will buy expensive, gold versions of them still.
― horseshoe, Monday, 22 June 2009 20:08 (seventeen years ago)
Wait - like fake gold lipsticks? Why?!
― ☺☻☺☻come on ppl now smile on u brother☺☻☺☻ (ENBB), Monday, 22 June 2009 20:09 (seventeen years ago)
haha not really exactly like them, but you know, expensive charm bracelets/necklaces. these are a thing, right? maybe i'm making them up.
― horseshoe, Monday, 22 June 2009 20:09 (seventeen years ago)
LOL yeah - I get you now. They're still definitely a thing and I don't really get it tbh.
― ☺☻☺☻come on ppl now smile on u brother☺☻☺☻ (ENBB), Monday, 22 June 2009 20:10 (seventeen years ago)
The plastic ones were a version of real charms to begin with. I have a '50s-style charm bracelet, my mom started them for us when we were little, and I'm still really jealous of hers, like the globe on a stand that's made of turquoise so it rly kind of looks like the earth, and it spins.
― But not someone who should be dead anyway (Laurel), Monday, 22 June 2009 20:12 (seventeen years ago)
i guess that makes more sense.
― horseshoe, Monday, 22 June 2009 20:13 (seventeen years ago)
Yes, I like the vintage type ones. My mom also started one of those for me when I was little and has a cool one herself that also has a globe. It's this kind of thing I'm not too keen on, I guess:

The point of charms is to be commemorative, though. I have charms for major performances, recitals, certain years of my life, things that people gave me like a saint's medal (St Michael? no idea why) and odds and ends that remind me of people. I just found a 1950s-era New York subway token in a handbag in a secondhand store, and I'm going to put a silver link through it and add it to my charm bracelet to commemorate the last dozen years of my life, basically.
― But not someone who should be dead anyway (Laurel), Monday, 22 June 2009 20:16 (seventeen years ago)
Oh, Tiffany's. Gross!
― But not someone who should be dead anyway (Laurel), Monday, 22 June 2009 20:17 (seventeen years ago)
Yes - I think mine has a saint's medal too. It also has little skis purchased in Colorado when I learned to ski, a heart for my 16th birthday and some others. I think the subway token is a great idea.
