I'm sure this will change once I have a husband.

Yeah, then you'll use your bath towels.

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Monday, 6 August 2012 22:30 (thirteen years ago)

or my husband

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Monday, 6 August 2012 22:31 (thirteen years ago)

carl, i would be more than thrilled to gift you the napkin rings i received for christmas from a well-meaning relative 10 years ago

sarahell, Monday, 6 August 2012 22:32 (thirteen years ago)

Thank you. But I will pass. Unless they are cool and I could make earrings out of them.

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Monday, 6 August 2012 22:42 (thirteen years ago)

they are gray and v uncool

sarahell, Monday, 6 August 2012 22:47 (thirteen years ago)

Sounds like a good thing to put in the thrift store donation box, IMO.

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Monday, 6 August 2012 22:56 (thirteen years ago)

Xxxp v good dad-related points Carl.

ljubljana, Monday, 6 August 2012 23:35 (thirteen years ago)

The only thing my Dad cares about is that I keep my hair long. Not because of femininity, but because he is an HIPPIE - his hair is longer than mine, after all.

My Mum used to have these really cool napkin rings that were made of filaments of clear plastic of some kind - they were great because I could connect them end to end to conduct experiments in how fibre optics transmit and bend light and the like.

I am sick today so I am probably not making much sense.

Fake Ve-EEEE-gan Cheese (White Chocolate Cheesecake), Tuesday, 7 August 2012 10:29 (thirteen years ago)

mom used to really get onto us doing anything to our hair. dying, cutting, it was all bad.

when i was in high school i looked like a mennonite (this is poss inaccurate) cause i wasn't allowed to cut my hair. at 18 i cut it to my shoulders and thought i was a huge rebel

the most astonishing writer on ilx (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 7 August 2012 14:08 (thirteen years ago)

Ugh, I cannot believe that at my advanced age, I still need my mom to wade in and break it up when my sister starts acting like a total tosser, ie. acts all outraged that anyone would have the audacity to hold her to normal human standards of behaviour.

higgs' besom (suzy), Tuesday, 7 August 2012 14:42 (thirteen years ago)

wow what kind of stuff does she do

the most astonishing writer on ilx (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 8 August 2012 03:47 (thirteen years ago)

Between us, we were awarded $2500 by a relative's estate. Sister dearest was holding my half for when I needed a plane ticket, but helped herself to this money without asking permission when she was 'between paychecks' (if she had asked permission and explained her circs, I'd definitely have allowed it, NBD). She's never been able to pass a cookie jar without thrusting her hand into it. As luck would have it, I needed some of this money last week and asked her to wire some of it. She couldn't, blamed being 'between checks' again. Between the lines of my messages one could read 'well, you could have asked permission and if you didn't STEAL we wouldn't be having this conversation'. Cue all sorts of bad deflection/puffed-up entitlement ie. CAN'T YOU SEE I AM TRYING TO RUN A BUSINESS HERE/I WORK SO HARD/STOP TREATING ME LIKE A TWO YEAR OLD. Also, I am rude because I never ask how she is or make small-talk when we're in this situation. RAGE.

Additionally, all under-duress communication from my sister must include (possibly by statute) overuse of exclamation marks and at least one incidence of 'could of'/'should of' in each small paragraph. DOUBLE RAGE.

higgs' besom (suzy), Wednesday, 8 August 2012 07:15 (thirteen years ago)

OK that last bit alone would make me punchy let alone the rest!

Pureed Moods (Trayce), Wednesday, 8 August 2012 08:11 (thirteen years ago)

oh man, that is not okay. i'm really sorry, suzy.

Between the lines of my messages one could read 'well, you could have asked permission and if you didn't STEAL we wouldn't be having this conversation'.

honestly, it sounds like you handled this pretty controlledly. i think i would have been incoherent with rage and yelled at her.

horseshoe, Wednesday, 8 August 2012 13:37 (thirteen years ago)

It was via the magic of Facebook messages so there was no opportunity for DECIBELS.

My MO for dealing with her incoherent messages is to a) use multi-syllabic fifty-center vocab words or shoehorn in a correct 'could have' in any response and b) go into total Vulcan mode. After 20+ years of this crap (she has stolen from my mom to gamble in the past) she is very, very lucky there are approximately 4000 miles between us.

AN OPEN LETTER TO THE GUY WHO HELPFULLY ANNOUNCED “DAAAAAMN BITCH, YOU FAT!” TO ME IN THE TARGET PARKING LOT THIS MORNING

You probably think the only place I belong is wherever you can’t see me, ideally in the dark, behind closed doors. You need protection from having my big old fat self out there polluting your visual landscape, like I think I have a right to go anyplace I want, like I think I have a right to force people who find my body offensive to look at me. How you must suffer. Allow me to break out the world’s fattest violin.

I love Leslie Kinzel. She's hilarious and OTM.

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Thursday, 9 August 2012 18:41 (thirteen years ago)

Right. On.

Norton Malreward (White Chocolate Cheesecake), Thursday, 9 August 2012 18:46 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, Leslie is great. She rocks some awesome manicures too.

(✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Thursday, 9 August 2012 18:50 (thirteen years ago)

I never learn, do I?

:-(

Norton Malreward (White Chocolate Cheesecake), Thursday, 9 August 2012 20:37 (thirteen years ago)

some douchebag called you fat in a parking lot, too?

sarahell, Thursday, 9 August 2012 20:39 (thirteen years ago)

No, it was just a vague sigh of disappointment with myself for acting like a bull in a thread where dude-bros were having fun waving their favourite flags.

Norton Malreward (White Chocolate Cheesecake), Thursday, 9 August 2012 20:43 (thirteen years ago)

you are an Aries, though, right?

sarahell, Thursday, 9 August 2012 20:53 (thirteen years ago)

I sure am. ::makes devil horns sign::

Chewton Mendip (White Chocolate Cheesecake), Thursday, 9 August 2012 20:56 (thirteen years ago)

so don't let whatever dude-bros say bother you

sarahell, Thursday, 9 August 2012 20:58 (thirteen years ago)

I'm not bothered by what they said, I'm bothered by my inability to contain my snark sometimes.

n/m

Chewton Mendip (White Chocolate Cheesecake), Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:00 (thirteen years ago)

you give good snark, WCC, fuck the haters!

sarahell, Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:00 (thirteen years ago)

::devil horns:: you rawk sarahell!

(don't know why I'm into devil horns tonight. I blame painkillers)

Chewton Mendip (White Chocolate Cheesecake), Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:04 (thirteen years ago)

I don't know what I was hoping for when I searched for "ram with devil horns" but I definitely did not find the cute picture of a ram throwing devil horns that I was hoping form. Or even a particularly demonic looking ram.

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:21 (thirteen years ago)

meanwhile the animated .gif from "altered states" that was on the "goat eyes" thread doesn't show up anymore

sarahell, Thursday, 9 August 2012 21:23 (thirteen years ago)

sad :(

Nice.

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Thursday, 9 August 2012 22:14 (thirteen years ago)

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 9 August 2012 22:16 (thirteen years ago)

Man saw the cutest boy at a show I'm at. Need to learn how to hit on ppl.

rayuela, Friday, 10 August 2012 04:26 (thirteen years ago)

Things ILX has taught me:

1) a well deployed gif in the right place can be awesome
2) you don't have to pretend you like music that does nothing for you in order to impress a dude
3) you don't have to pretend you don't like the music that you do because a dude might sneer at you
4) you don't have to spend time talking to someone who repeatedly ignores your boundaries
5) trust your instincts, if everyone is defending/promoting someone who made you v v uncomfortable, you do not have to agree
6) you don't have to feel sorry for or guilty about 2, 3, 4 or 5

These are things that have been bouncing around my head all night. I haven't slept very well.

Chewton Mendip (White Chocolate Cheesecake), Friday, 10 August 2012 06:03 (thirteen years ago)

I really wish I could turn off my brain sometimes. But at least I didn't have nightmares about the 9-eyed devil-jesus goat gifs which I totally thought I was going to.

Chewton Mendip (White Chocolate Cheesecake), Friday, 10 August 2012 06:06 (thirteen years ago)

I hate the shirt I'm wearing today and I'm not cold but have nipples for miles. Actually, I hate the skirt I'm wearing, too, or maybe it's the skirt with the shirt. Anyway, one of those days.

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Wednesday, 15 August 2012 16:03 (thirteen years ago)

Hate those kinds of days.

Shepton Mullet (White Chocolate Cheesecake), Wednesday, 15 August 2012 16:11 (thirteen years ago)

Sometimes on those days I go to the local "cheap clothes for $10" store and just replace part of my outfit. I know the $5 t-shirts are sewn by paralyzed enslaved orphans in a country wracked by civil war, global warming, and the seven plagues but sometimes professional embarrassment is too high a price.

check the name, no caps, boom, i'm (Laurel), Wednesday, 15 August 2012 16:11 (thirteen years ago)

I was thinking about doing that but thought I was overreacting! Thank you for the validation.

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Wednesday, 15 August 2012 16:14 (thirteen years ago)

Haha why do you think I have 3 of the same too-tight white scoop-neck Tshirt that I wear under sweaters and stuff?

check the name, no caps, boom, i'm (Laurel), Wednesday, 15 August 2012 16:16 (thirteen years ago)

I'm not cold but have nipples for miles

this is never not a problem for me, so i just bought these

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00207OAI4/ref=ox_ya_os_product

hoping they're shipped in a nondescript box, as they're coming to my workplace.

rayuela, Wednesday, 15 August 2012 16:23 (thirteen years ago)

You know that moment where you're kind of annoyed about something, but not seriously annoyed, just "this is annoying" kind of level of annoyed? And then someone comes in and makes out like you are being "crazy shouting lady"? And that characterisation, which you feel is totally unfair, *that* flips you into full-on rage mode? That.

(It's almost like they know that that this is a thing that will completely unbalance you, and so that's why they deploy it.)

But never mind.

Shepton Mullet (White Chocolate Cheesecake), Wednesday, 15 August 2012 16:24 (thirteen years ago)

I know that all too well.

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Wednesday, 15 August 2012 16:27 (thirteen years ago)

In small mercies, I really like the shirt I'm wearing today. I should concentrate on that instead. It's one of the things I got in the Laurel-inspired shopping trip.

Shepton Mullet (White Chocolate Cheesecake), Wednesday, 15 August 2012 16:29 (thirteen years ago)

yes.

once i was giving a coworker shit about saying some mildly misogynistic stuff, but it was a happy hour and everyone was kind of drunk so i was trying to keep my tone light, and he got all, c'mon, you're being too sensitive!!! and then i yelled at him for real.
