i love the politics too, theyre muddled sometimes but its nice to have a non-sorkin admittedly liberal show on tv

by which i mean, can be liberal without introducing quirky principled conservative who gives long monologues cribbed from email forwards

yeah exactly. sometimes an episode's take on an issue is shallow/glib (this has happened a lot in the third season) but at least it is frankly political.

xp haha yeah it's not that kind of show. btw i think alan cumming may be the best thing about the show? or at archie panjabi level, maybe.

or even more specifically, re: the politcs, because alicia's so poker-faced a character, it's not always clear exactly what's being endorsed, but a lot of povs that aren't often on tv are represented.

yeah cumming kills it, makes the mike logan plotlines watchable. the acting is really top notch, saves the writing when its clunky, which so far is not that much

yeah--her politics seems to be guided by "compassion" (& not like "truth" which seems to be the case for more legal drama shows) which when handled deftly its really nice; when its handled poorly its very... i dont know. "womens tv" in a bad way.

yeah. sometimes, i will say, she'll have that very lawyer-procedural problem where she's like i'm a lawyer! but i'm a good person! conflict! and it's just like ugh are you kidding me with this shit? in fact, perhaps harbl could shed light on how annoying and hackneyed that theme is, as a lawyer.

yeah those are the "handled poorly" episodes

and i will admit to being annoyed at how she ALWAYS finds a way to both win AND be morally right

but that is tv

it's so dumb how legal shows rarely just defend criminal defense as a necessary institution even if the person being defended did *terrible things.* i mean, i guess it's not dumb, it's political, but it makes me mad.

dan rydell defends it! and he is generally a likable character/good person so its not like its being given the the "shark lawyer" or whatever

hmm I don't think I've done 9 this year but I have def done 10, might split the baby at 9:30, see how it feels, go to 9:15 if everything's cool

i really do hate lawyer shows, and the lawyery parts of shows i like are the worst parts to me. like how i hated the prosecutor on the wire. but maybe in part because it is a prosecutor, how do they sleep at night? i have never watched law and order, btw

oh man did this come PRE-dsk?? i thought it was their DSK episode!

it was fantastic, i thought--not just the rape storyline, which was so smart and well-handled, but the whole thing--chris noth with her phone in the ballroom, dan rydells' date. one of the best of the series.

otm, that's my favorite episode of the whole damn thing

i am 95% sure it happened shortly before D S-K but i could be misremembering

harbl you might like the good wife, its all about saying FU to the state's attorney/prosecutors in general

seriously it was like a high-wire act, i kept watching it waiting for them to fumble the sexual assault, because its tv and no one knows how to handle sexual assault, and they basically kept it up the whole way through

ok maybe i will watch it one day. in the show are they all annoying goody-goodies who tell half-truths all day & think mj is a big deal

it's literally the only episode of tv i've ever seen that dealt with the difficulties of pursuing a rape case well.

"the good wife" character is "good" but everyone else is hella ~suspect~

lol guys today i watched a trial that went on way too long and probably cost the state so much money over the course of the whole thing that i have to tell you about. there was a loud party complaint and the cops came and when the door opened it was like an explosion of marijuana smoke so they were like can i search your house and the guy was like "nah" so they entered anyway (this was ruled to be ok because obviously this was an emergency, exigent circumstances) and held everyone while they waited for the warrant. then they searched and found all this paraphernalia and stuff, but i don't think anyone was charged with possessing any actual drugs just paraphernalia, which is only a $500 fine, no jail. and one of the cops testified i searched this and this bedroom, but i did not search bedroom 2, because there was a snake in that bedroom. then when the trial was over we made fun of him for being afraid of snakes. he was like, "yeah it turned out it was a little snake but to me it was like an anaconda."
