The other week on my other message board everyone was using pictures of orange cats as their avatars & I thought of your kitty.

we are sitting by the space heater and she is passed out on my lap. i think we need to go to the vet because she has these small red spots (some are kind of long and skinny) by her ears where the hair is thinner. i don't think they are flea bites because i have seen no other flea evidence and she is not scratching any more than usual. she seems not to know there is anything there at all. probably not ear mites either, for that reason. could be nothing but i don't want her to have any problems.

i am kitty-less again

tried to entice the neighbor's cat (either lily or lucy, there are two) onto the fire escape for a pet; she was intrigued but unconvinced

so we pick up two new fellows from the rescue centre tomorrow. excited, but also a little anxious... my last dude had an amazing, beatific, chilled personality, and he was with me 16 years. can i be that lucky again?

We just got two new kitties and they are awesome. Differntly awesome than old Quincie cat, but awesome in their own ways!

bros, 7 months old, crazy cute and crazy timid. they're in my gf's office now, with food and water and litter and scratching post. leaving them be to settle in a bit. not sure what to name them yet, but leaning towards thelonius and albert, if its not too pretentious to name cats after jazz cats i love. maybe we'll wait until their personalities announce themselves.

Last week, a pretty grey cat followed me to my door and asked to come in. I shooed him away, felt bad but not that bad. Today I went into my hallway/stairwell and he was curled up on a drop cloth! Hiding! So I led him to the front door, let him out, he went happily until he realized I wasn't going out WITH him, upon which realization he plastered his face against our glass door until I went back upstairs. I still have no idea how he got into the hallway!

All of which has made me think I would like a cat if he didn't live IN my apartment.

haha for real, my old cat i just called "cat" and my dog, who had a real name, was generally referred to as 'fathead' or 'stupidface' or 'bunny'

I know at least one person who skipped a step and just named her cat Fathead.

nb i did not call the dog 'bunny,' my sister did. anything that is cute and adorable she calls 'bunny!', with an exclamation point

my cat's name is zipper and i gave her that name but i have never called her that. i call her cat, buddy, tiny, baby, pal, friend, and a bunch of other things. and she probably thinks the words don't, no, stop, and cut it out are all her names. at the shelter her official name was "baby kitty." wtf.

No longer having a cat is an emotional thing. It's okay to cry or get the vapors. Or both at the same time.

I know it probably won't help much, but at least console yourself that it's better for him not to be moving between homes. Horrible thing to go through, though.

i took the cover off my ikea couch to wash it and i am sitting on it and i just felt some little cat claws reach at my back from underneath. what a jokester.

What a scamp.

Our old fat cat has discovered that she can get into the bathtub to drink out of the tap, human cooperation permitting. She did it the first time a few days ago and I was delighted because she has a history of bladder stones and I'm always afraid she's not drinking enough water. Now she's positively beastly about it, going so far as to try to get in the tub with me while I was showering, trying to walk the length of the tub on the edge, which is NOT OKAY because she's 16, fat, and has been clumsy enough to fall off furniture since I got her in 2000. Also, between the two of us, there's not a whole lot of room in the shower and while I remain soft and vulnerable, she turns into a sharp, dangerous, panicked, indiscriminate WMD when she gets wet.

ha. my cat loves hanging out in the bathtub but as soon as I step inside for a shower, he jumps out of there as fast as he can.

Jeff says he's going to turn the shower on her because he has less patience for her obsessive water-seeking behavior, but I don't think he's going to actually do that.

aw mooks, I'm so sorry. hang in there and get another kitty when you are ready. she/he will be different from lyle, but awesome in his/her own way and will love you very much.

That is very very true.

our newish dudes woke us up last night biting our feet. v cute but a little disturbing. also the friendly black one is besotted with my other half and is never happier than when he's 'grooming' her, licking her hair and holding her in position with his paws. the ginger one still hisses when we get within six inches of him, but it used to be a perimeter of a foot, so its improving. and he likes the taste of our feet.
