one thing that sucks about being short is finding clothes that fit you

this sucks for tall ppl too, ime

blank, Sunday, 19 June 2011 18:23 (fourteen years ago)

really the one thing that sucks about being short & finding clothes is that stuff that's on sale is always L & XL

J0rdan S., Sunday, 19 June 2011 18:27 (fourteen years ago)

I'm a short woman and also have a complex abt not being taken seriously. I've always put it down to other looks-related issues rather than height specifically but actually shortness may play into it more than I've realised.

(this is really winding me up at work lately, hence the thread I attempted to revive y/day about bitterness, cz the things which set it off are not going to go away but I was hoping maybe my reaction to them could be tamed. oh well)

sambal dalek (a passing spacecadet), Sunday, 19 June 2011 18:45 (fourteen years ago)

i'm the same height as ENBB and it does help as far as being taken seriously. i didn't think about it so much because wherever i've worked, i've been used to generally being about the same height as most of the men. but the guy who's currently the head of my department is kind of soft spoken and probably 6'3 - and i found him pretty intimidating for a while, just because of that. not used to talking to people who are that much taller.

It's so weird when this happens because sometimes I don't even realize that's what it is at first.

idk height is weird

\(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Sunday, 19 June 2011 20:48 (fourteen years ago)

And that is my profound conclusion to this discussion.

;p

\(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Sunday, 19 June 2011 20:48 (fourteen years ago)

having a long torso means there are basically no t-shirts for me that don't cause Bill S Preston Esq bare midriff awfulness.

I think my posture is messed up from crouching. I hate looking down on people (literally) during convos.

If you go to outlet stores for fancy menswear brands basically everything on their shelves is 44/46/48 inch chest and 38+ waist - I once asked if they ever had anything smaller and the guy said "oh no, those sell out instantly".

Gravel Puzzleworth, Sunday, 19 June 2011 22:17 (fourteen years ago)

oh outlet stores, right.

I may be fat but i wear from this season, tyvm

beta the drivel you know (darraghmac), Sunday, 19 June 2011 22:23 (fourteen years ago)

lol

nakhchivan, Sunday, 19 June 2011 22:24 (fourteen years ago)

I thought most clothes sold in outlet stores nowadays were either seconds or made especially to be sold there.

Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Monday, 20 June 2011 16:00 (fourteen years ago)

It depends on the store.

tokyo rosemary, Monday, 20 June 2011 16:51 (fourteen years ago)

As for height, I am 5'6". I like short, average, and tall men.

tokyo rosemary, Monday, 20 June 2011 16:53 (fourteen years ago)

so what's the dividing line between 'short' and 'average' - like I think of the 5'7-5'10 range as some kind of DMZ between the two but would be curious what your ranges would be

british sb power (dayo), Monday, 20 June 2011 16:56 (fourteen years ago)

As for height, I am 5'6". I like short, average, and tall men.

Haha, so discriminating!

Virginia Plain, Monday, 20 June 2011 17:05 (fourteen years ago)

Dayo that range is average

arachno-misogynist (D-40), Monday, 20 June 2011 17:26 (fourteen years ago)

Like, average in the states is 5'10, worldwide is 5'9

arachno-misogynist (D-40), Monday, 20 June 2011 17:27 (fourteen years ago)

I guess 5'7 would be " short side of average"

arachno-misogynist (D-40), Monday, 20 June 2011 17:28 (fourteen years ago)

i think the spread is 5'9"-5'10" in uk, maybe an inch taller in europe. any shorter/taller than that and you are a freak imo.

caek, Monday, 20 June 2011 17:31 (fourteen years ago)

It's interesting that you say that!

My maternal grandparents were from Yugoslavia and my mom is also 5'10". She said she felt like a complete freak growing up because I think overall ladies were even smaller then. She and my dad went to Yugoslavia as part of there honeymoon and she said that she noticed how tall everyone was and was like, "Yes, my people!".

\(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Monday, 20 June 2011 17:36 (fourteen years ago)

I'm the worst height - 5' 11 3/4". How stupid is that.

The only other person I know of at that height is GEORGE WALKER BUSH. We could share the same train car at the county fair.

Pleasant Plains, Monday, 20 June 2011 19:37 (fourteen years ago)

But I feel for you short dudes. If it makes any difference, I have a hairless chest and no Indian blood to give me an excuse.

Pleasant Plains, Monday, 20 June 2011 19:38 (fourteen years ago)

I was in the Yucatan for a month, full of those descended from the Mayans, and they're all pretty short. I'm 6' 2" and I didn't see a single person taller than me. I was at a few parties for my GF's family and they pretty much stared at me nonstop. Kids were constantly bugging me. I've never felt like a giant before but it was pretty cool!!

frogbs, Monday, 20 June 2011 19:47 (fourteen years ago)

a friend of mine is a 6' redhead who visited ass-nowhere rural china in the late 90s and people treated her like an actual freak. she said it took ages to get down the street because ppl would stop to have their picture taken with her, and she was constantly being asked to come in for food or tea or w/e so ppl could have a braggable experience with the giant ginger weirdo
