flopson, Sunday, 19 June 2011 03:26 (fourteen years ago)

I think flopson and friends' approach sounds kind and endearing, it has a freaks and geeks tone to it.

estela, Sunday, 19 June 2011 03:26 (fourteen years ago)

breakfast-eaters was a poor example to use on greedy old ilx.

estela, Sunday, 19 June 2011 03:28 (fourteen years ago)

the same friend also once met the creator or director or something of law & order: svu at a dinner party thru his tangentially high-society jewish family and asked him if he would name a character after him, & he did and the character was a rapist!

flopson, Sunday, 19 June 2011 03:29 (fourteen years ago)

well he asked for it!

J0rdan S., Sunday, 19 June 2011 03:32 (fourteen years ago)

estela, Sunday, 19 June 2011 09:23 (fourteen years ago)

jordan s is taller than me and i don't ever suffer pangs about shortness.

estela, Sunday, 19 June 2011 09:24 (fourteen years ago)

i think jordan s is also taller than bob dylan.

estela, Sunday, 19 June 2011 09:27 (fourteen years ago)

and also jordan s is taller than my dog who does not even reach my knee, sometimes i exclaim at him about that.

estela, Sunday, 19 June 2011 09:29 (fourteen years ago)

flopson, Sunday, 19 June 2011 09:33 (fourteen years ago)

flopson, Sunday, 19 June 2011 09:39 (fourteen years ago)

i'm a bit disappointed you didn't express your concern by writing a rap about it.

estela, Sunday, 19 June 2011 09:46 (fourteen years ago)

I used to be short. I'm glad I'm not anymore.

51 suggest gang (The Reverend), Sunday, 19 June 2011 10:22 (fourteen years ago)

british sb power (dayo), Sunday, 19 June 2011 11:20 (fourteen years ago)

one thing that sucks about being short is finding clothes that fit you

\(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Sunday, 19 June 2011 11:21 (fourteen years ago)

This is actually pretty interesting to me. As I said earlier I like being tall - a lot. I'm either 5'9" or 5'10" depending on who by and when I'm measured and I think that's sort of the perfect tall height for a woman. It's not so tall that it seems freakish but it's tall enough that I reap the benefits. I think that being a tall woman can be a huge benefit in terms of commanding respect and being taken seriously by men. That might sound strange but I think it's a lot easier for people to dismiss small women than it is for them to dismiss taller women and I feel like in certain situations (work, school) smaller female friends have had to work work harder at being heard and taken seriously than I have. In some ways height and physical presense = power and I think definitely benefited from being tall.

this is a thing i have a complex about in terms of being short but tbf maybe people dismiss me because i'm crazy and it has nothing to do with my height.

horseshoe, Sunday, 19 June 2011 18:14 (fourteen years ago)

That's basically what I meant -- always reminds me of that little bit before Daydream Believer where Davy Jones asks "is it because I'm short?" (or us it just ME?)

heartbreak beet (La Lechera), Sunday, 19 June 2011 18:23 (fourteen years ago)

this sucks for tall ppl too, ime

blank, Sunday, 19 June 2011 18:23 (fourteen years ago)

really the one thing that sucks about being short & finding clothes is that stuff that's on sale is always L & XL

J0rdan S., Sunday, 19 June 2011 18:27 (fourteen years ago)

I'm a short woman and also have a complex abt not being taken seriously. I've always put it down to other looks-related issues rather than height specifically but actually shortness may play into it more than I've realised.

(this is really winding me up at work lately, hence the thread I attempted to revive y/day about bitterness, cz the things which set it off are not going to go away but I was hoping maybe my reaction to them could be tamed. oh well)

sambal dalek (a passing spacecadet), Sunday, 19 June 2011 18:45 (fourteen years ago)

i'm the same height as ENBB and it does help as far as being taken seriously. i didn't think about it so much because wherever i've worked, i've been used to generally being about the same height as most of the men. but the guy who's currently the head of my department is kind of soft spoken and probably 6'3 - and i found him pretty intimidating for a while, just because of that. not used to talking to people who are that much taller.

It's so weird when this happens because sometimes I don't even realize that's what it is at first.

idk height is weird

\(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Sunday, 19 June 2011 20:48 (fourteen years ago)

And that is my profound conclusion to this discussion.

;p

\(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Sunday, 19 June 2011 20:48 (fourteen years ago)

having a long torso means there are basically no t-shirts for me that don't cause Bill S Preston Esq bare midriff awfulness.

blank, Sunday, 19 June 2011 20:55 (fourteen years ago)

I think my posture is messed up from crouching. I hate looking down on people (literally) during convos.

If you go to outlet stores for fancy menswear brands basically everything on their shelves is 44/46/48 inch chest and 38+ waist - I once asked if they ever had anything smaller and the guy said "oh no, those sell out instantly".

Gravel Puzzleworth, Sunday, 19 June 2011 22:17 (fourteen years ago)

oh outlet stores, right.

I may be fat but i wear from this season, tyvm

beta the drivel you know (darraghmac), Sunday, 19 June 2011 22:23 (fourteen years ago)

lol

nakhchivan, Sunday, 19 June 2011 22:24 (fourteen years ago)

I thought most clothes sold in outlet stores nowadays were either seconds or made especially to be sold there.

Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Monday, 20 June 2011 16:00 (fourteen years ago)

It depends on the store.

tokyo rosemary, Monday, 20 June 2011 16:51 (fourteen years ago)

As for height, I am 5'6". I like short, average, and tall men.

tokyo rosemary, Monday, 20 June 2011 16:53 (fourteen years ago)

so what's the dividing line between 'short' and 'average' - like I think of the 5'7-5'10 range as some kind of DMZ between the two but would be curious what your ranges would be

british sb power (dayo), Monday, 20 June 2011 16:56 (fourteen years ago)
