considering this: when i put a plate of food (or a plate i just ate off of) next to me on the couch, she always comes and "cleans" around it but she is never interested in eating my food. she must know it's food if she does that thing, but how does she know it's food if she doesn't want to eat it? is she just trying to save me from enemies?

i think she is just very polite and knows that you saved her so how dare she try to steal your food!

my ivan just came crawling up to sleep in my armpit as i recline on bed with laptop. he's not normally so directly affectionate.

well there are some human foods she will eat, but not many. she can't resist tuna or sardines.
she's sitting on my lap atm. i can't sit on the couch without her getting into my lap. she is very affectionate but also very shy.

do your guys cats ever do that "nothing going on here, i'm just grooming myself" face-saving move when they are embarrassed like when they screw up a big jump or whatever?

I had a cat named Ivan, too. I didn't name him. He was a good and bad cat. He was semi-feral.

so kitty is very gentlemanly about his excretions, always in the proper place thus far, but likes to burst out of the litter box and generally scatter litter everywhere. i've turned the opening toward the wall, i've put the box on a wee rug, all to no avail. is there some secret to keeping it in the box or is that just the way it goes?

when you guys sleep do your cats sleep on your chest and then stare at you for like 6-8 hours straight because I think that's what my cats are doing

she spends like the last hour of my sleep sitting on my chest/stomach and staring at me yes. she is surprisingly heavy.

dude will sit on my head, but only if my hair is long enough for him to play with, which it is not normally. otherwise he complains and tries to destroy everything on my end table.

i do sleep mostly on my side but she gets on top of my hip and it hurts my bones

Bo, Cracker & Ruby
3 gorgeous rural cats
We're trying to find a home for three cats who would like to live together on a farm or similar rural environment. Their current owner has had to (reluctantly) put them up for adoption due to a medical condition. The details of these cats are as follows.

Bo. A very chatty 2-to-3-years-old tabby long-haired male cat who loves to hunt (up to 5 kills a day!). Loyal as a dog but you'll need to watch that he doesn't hitch a ride on visiting vehicles.

Cracker. 3-to-4-year-old male cat. Very indepdent. A BIG CAT.

Ruby. 1-to-2-year-old black and white long-haired cat. Very suspicious of people; she may bite or swipe if spooked but really a lovely cat.

the cat that wandered into the back yard and adopted us last winter is a terrible self-groomer -- he smells like catshit all the time. I thought cats had more pride than that.
