The dining hall at my university once offered pizza on a crust made out of some sort of baked or fried spaghetti mass.

garlic butter stuff = 2 tbsp soft butter, 2 tbsp olive oil, couple cloves crushed/minced garlic, salt & pepper, red pepper flakes, microplaned parmesan. mix and put and bake or toast or broil. with old spaghetti inside. awm. but with pesto noodle...

advice: use this 2 week tempban to learn what a sandwich is

(♥_♥) (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 6 October 2010 01:14 (fifteen years ago)

So mashed potatoes belong in a pasta thread but not tacos in a sandwich thread?

a taco is not a sandwich
a mashed potato is however a sandwich filling

pasta sandwiches are great though

eardrum buzz aldrin (NickB), Monday, 3 March 2014 08:49 (twelve years ago)

also sliced-up baked potato sandwiches w/brown bread and ketchup, noodles in pitta bread with lots of spicy sauce, risotto on toast - all these are fine things

PIE IRON SANDWICH – RAVIOLI WITH GARLIC TOAST
http://50campfires.com/pie-iron-sandwich-ravioli-with-garlic-toast/

INGREDIENTS
1 can beef ravioli
1 package Garlic Texas Toast
1 tablespoon shredded cheese
Cooking Spray
DIRECTIONS
Spray the pie iron well with cooking spray, Lay a piece of Texas Toast on one side of the pie iron. Spoon 2 raviolis with marinara sauce on to the Texas Toast and sprinkle with cheese. Put the second piece of Texas Toast on top of the raviolis. Squeeze the pie iron shut and place near the coals of the campfire. Cook for 2 minutes per side. It is always good to check the progress before flipping so you don’t burn it. Once cooked, slide the sandwich out of the pie iron and on to plate. Let cool and enjoy!

one year passes...

Here we can get a fries sandwich. Big sandwich with fries in. Never tried it tho. I don't like bread much.

nathom, Friday, 1 February 2019 23:03 (seven years ago)

pittsburgh?

the real indie runs (Sufjan Grafton), Friday, 1 February 2019 23:04 (seven years ago)

here in Montreal I've had fries in tacos and in falafel wraps. admittedly it's traditional here to do weird shit with fries

rob, Friday, 1 February 2019 23:07 (seven years ago)

Belgium. We do weird shit w fries too: slap some mayo on it. Lol

nathom, Friday, 1 February 2019 23:10 (seven years ago)

a 'california' burrito has fries in it. a few "Belgian" restaurants over here are just fries, different dipping mayos, and beer. so that is not surprising.

the real indie runs (Sufjan Grafton), Friday, 1 February 2019 23:14 (seven years ago)

Different mayos? We only have two types here. Regular and with lemon. Hmmm. Argh I need fries now.

nathom, Friday, 1 February 2019 23:19 (seven years ago)

if Sufjan's in the US, one is def chipotle mayo

rob, Friday, 1 February 2019 23:21 (seven years ago)

so I am mainly referencing Frjtz which has: Curry ketchup, Thai chili ketchup, Ginger Orange mayo, Kalamata ketchup, Creamy Wasabi mayo, Chipotle remoulade, Habanero cranberry ketchup, White truffle artichoke ketchup, Bacon mayo, Grilled eggplant mayo, Strawberry mustard, Miso mayo, Balsamic mayo, Smoky honey mustard, Roasted pepper mayo, BBQ, Parmesan peppercorn ranch, and Caramelized onion-black pepper mayo

the real indie runs (Sufjan Grafton), Friday, 1 February 2019 23:25 (seven years ago)

Omfg I wanna try'em all. Not w fries though. Only trad mayo works w fries.

nathom, Friday, 1 February 2019 23:26 (seven years ago)

chip butty is a common enough thing in britain

not as good as a roll and scotch pie mind

( ͡☉ ͜ʖ ͡☉) (jim in vancouver), Friday, 1 February 2019 23:35 (seven years ago)

Hey nathom, thanks. I also thought frjtz mayo selections were old-world. Except for the chipotle.

fajita seas, Sunday, 3 February 2019 02:40 (seven years ago)

I am v interested in the idea of the American Belgian restaurant bc I grew up in the supposed Belgian section of a small town and have seen one 'fancy' Belgian restaurant in the states ever that was in Charlottesville, VA.

the real indie runs (Sufjan Grafton), Sunday, 3 February 2019 03:14 (seven years ago)

a california burrito is what’s up

the late great, Sunday, 3 February 2019 03:18 (seven years ago)

I have had the Belgian hamburger/fries sandwich in Brussels. I was in a very strange hotel, suffering from the worst headache of my life caused by drinking a tall can of beer at 9am on an empty stomach

brimstead, Sunday, 3 February 2019 03:24 (seven years ago)

Haha. I love tourists not realizing how strong our beer is and then becoming drunk in the middle of the day. (Feel sorry for their hangovers though.) Esp Americans love how it's "acceptable"/legally ok to drink alcohol on the streets. Yes, they won't get fined but it's still soc unacceptable. Noone here does it cause it's frowned upon.

nathom, Sunday, 3 February 2019 09:07 (seven years ago)

It was a Carlsberg

brimstead, Sunday, 3 February 2019 17:27 (seven years ago)

The American Belgian restaurant was invented here in DC and there are many different takes. My current favorite has a brunch dish where they just put the waffle in a bowl and pour chicken waterzooi on top of it.

three weeks pass...

A couple of weeks ago my son, 5, suggested we try baking some bread with cooked noodles mixed into the dough. Considering it tbh.

I had a slice of pizza with ravioli and a slice with penne alla vodka on it last week. I have no regrets.

They tried to make ramen burritos a thing. I tried to make it at home once but I don't think I got the seasoning right.
