plax (ico), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 10:40 (fifteen years ago)

so guys apparently a kitten arrived at my house last night

pies. (gbx), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 15:34 (fifteen years ago)

What, like, mysteriously??

Jesus doesn't want me for a thundercloud (Laurel), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 15:37 (fifteen years ago)

it is a sign.

kate78, Wednesday, 11 August 2010 15:42 (fifteen years ago)

my friends found it in an alley, and they walked over with it in a backpack. we went to the bar, so we left the kitten here. i came home and played with it, and worried about its poopings and the whereabouts thereof.

this morning it capered, and i glared sternly, because i am hungover. it scratched at the door (srsly!) and i thought "i'll go get a box" and when i came back it had pooped right on the floor. i told the cat it was v stupid, and it chewed a cable, so i yelled at it again.

m and z called it d'artagnan, but that is far too aspirational a name for an alleycat, so now it's named pizza

pies. (gbx), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 15:45 (fifteen years ago)

btw i think if i was adopting a pet i would only want an old depressed animal w/ social problems.

plax (ico), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 15:46 (fifteen years ago)

i mean all this capering

plax (ico), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 15:46 (fifteen years ago)

it has been cleaning itself for a solid ten minutes

you might be tempted to say "but that's what cats do!" except that this cat is the size of a potato, and could be cleaned entirely with a swift wipe of a dishrag

pies. (gbx), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 15:47 (fifteen years ago)

oh man the capering is the worst

i have things to do! you can't just ~run around~

like srsly the cat (pizza) has already climbed into a shoe, pooped (not in the shoe), investigated some old rope, and crawled under a desk. it is exhausting.

pies. (gbx), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 15:48 (fifteen years ago)

Re nomenclature: my brother has decided to pursue naming all his pets after "things you can put things in". His cat's name: Bucket. His (recently adopted) baby squirrel's name: Pocket.

Jesus doesn't want me for a thundercloud (Laurel), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 15:49 (fifteen years ago)

it isn't even that good at walking, yet it does it like it owns the g-d place

pies. (gbx), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 15:49 (fifteen years ago)

pizza is a great name!

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 11 August 2010 15:50 (fifteen years ago)

i think cats are only good when they realise they are full of resentment

plax (ico), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 15:51 (fifteen years ago)

You can't leave a kitten without a place to poop all night and then yell at it when it poops on the floor! Also, you should be more worried about where Pizza peed in the interim, as that is going to happen more often and fester and also mark places where s/he'll think it's totes cool to pee again.

I agree that the capering is totally exhausting, though. Wait until the little fucker gets a bit bigger and does shit like climb up your bare legs or try to jump into your lap, claws outstretched, and miss, and dig its little claws into your leg in a panicked attempt not to fall on its ass.

just wait

plax (ico), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 15:58 (fifteen years ago)

I am covered in little scratches from the kitten constantly attacking me, jumping on or off me, trying to climb up my leg, etc...

dig its little claws into your leg junk

kate78, Wednesday, 11 August 2010 16:01 (fifteen years ago)

That has never happened to me, although my fatass tabby fell off the bed the other day and in an attempt at self rescue, dug eight of her front claws into my soft, delicate side fat and hung there for a minute, which was pretty awful.

More like a second than a minute, but still.

i didn't really yell at it, that much. i just said hurtful things it didn't understand, like "you'll NEVER learn to read" and "i totally understand why you were left in an alley!"

anyway yeah the peeing is something i'm worried about. our old cat (outside) found its way into my car once and stank up the joint like a fucking a truckstop bathroom. right now pizza is in the box i gave him, by his own volition, and i am smelling furniture like a crazy person.

pies. (gbx), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 16:06 (fifteen years ago)

zuzu and cy wake up at 4:00 a.m. and wrestle ferociously throughout the house. it is v v v annoying. once youre awake, its pretty adorable though. then when they fall asleep in eachother's paws-- superawwwwwwww!

also, the kitten that spies your toe move through the sheets while you are asleep and CHOMP!

with effed up stuff like this i always remind myself that with a world population of over 6 billion and growing, psychopaths make up only a v v small percentage

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 19:31 (fifteen years ago)

I think my cat is not well :( She's had a massive escalation in peeing and crapping on my living room rug (I've now tried to clean and air it out to break the scent habit). She complains shes always hungry but she seems so skinny. She isnt lethargic or distressed, but she does seem kinda cranky.

And now it seems like she wont even use her darn litter box. She was always so meticulous, I dunno wtf is going on.

I cant cope with an old, ill cat. We're not home enough and Im not even supposed to have one in this house.

Mr Bungleow (Trayce), Saturday, 14 August 2010 01:44 (fifteen years ago)

im so sorry to hear this trayce, i hope that it gets worked out. i know exactly how this feels...

my stomach is full of anger. and pie. (Hunt3r), Saturday, 14 August 2010 03:01 (fifteen years ago)

She could be diabetic - the symptoms sound very like what happened to Drac. For him, it got under control with a grain-free diet. I hope it's something as simple for your kitty, Trayce.

Jaq, Saturday, 14 August 2010 03:06 (fifteen years ago)

i hope so too!

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Saturday, 14 August 2010 03:48 (fifteen years ago)

my cat has been having problems using his litterbox lately too :\ he's been crapping in this weird hallway we have between the main apartment and the backyard. we use it to store tools and stuff. and apparently he's taken to crapping in the corner there. i think i have to do something to remove whatever chemicals signal to him that it's okay to use the bathroom there, but i do not know how. it doesn't help that my roommate is being a douchebag abt it, sending me text messages like "this has to stop." while i am at work. annoying.

not everything is a campfire (ian), Saturday, 14 August 2010 04:12 (fifteen years ago)

Get rid of the roomate.

Jeff, Saturday, 14 August 2010 10:08 (fifteen years ago)

Jaq: thats what my vet friend said too, diabetes - she said the combo of hunger and weight loss is a sign of it. Havent noticed kitty drinking loads of water, which I know is the other sign. Fingers crossed, cos the thought of daily injections is a bit distressing (and I dont know if i can afford it). Ugh. Vet tomorrow, see how it goes.

Mr Bungleow (Trayce), Saturday, 14 August 2010 11:17 (fifteen years ago)

Actually she seems really averse to biscuits too, wont eat them (and pukes em up when she does) so that goes along with that theory hm. Diet adjustment is an easy one, at least!

I dont know if I can handle the extended care involved with an ageing/ill cat, so I'm really conflicted.

Mr Bungleow (Trayce), Saturday, 14 August 2010 11:19 (fifteen years ago)

Ian, could you just move the litterbox there? Maybe one with a top and odor-catchers or something to cut down on the smell?

Jesus doesn't want me for a thundercloud (Laurel), Saturday, 14 August 2010 22:57 (fifteen years ago)

Awesome - I know you've been considering doing something like that for a while.

the girl with the butt tattoo (harbl), Thursday, 19 August 2010 20:27 (fifteen years ago)

so i had this stray kitten that would hangout in behind my place. he was super awesome friendly and i'd let him inside once in a while, mainly as a mouse deterrent, but also because he's awesome.
yesterday, after not seeing him for a bit, i noticed the end of his tail was missing and all bloody. my gf works at a vet clinic - so we got him in a carrier and took him over. they had to amputate part of the tail today. they also neutered him and gave him all sorts of shots etc. and food.
so they're going to put him in their rescue program (much to the owner's chagrin). i'm going to miss the little guy, i just got back from visiting him and he's doing awesome. i seriously seriously considered taking him in myself.

Did harbl's cat get a name?

tehresa, Friday, 20 August 2010 23:38 (fifteen years ago)

cat's favorite thing these days is the chain lock on the front door. sometimes he sits there meowing to be picked up so he can bite/whack it
