i don't want anything to make me pregnant but that would have been funny nevertheless

I wrote a big rambly post on my blog about being angry all the time, this morning (and how I hate it when men IGNORE YOU when you just want someone to listen, but thats a whole nother thing). And I'm starting to think I need to redirect all my crank into some kind of energetic thing.

Not drums tho, haha. I'm way too uncoordinated :D Bashing away at a bass and hollering into a mic are fun though. Should do it more often. Fuck the neighs.

must have posted about this on ilx before, maybe multiple times, but the summer i was 13 i watched Pretty in Pink every day. that's not hyperbole.

horseshoe, Wednesday, 21 July 2010 16:25 (thirteen years ago) link

awwwww. I don't even know how many times I must have seen it but damn HS, that's pretty impressive.

Pretty In Pink was always my least favorite of those movies. I went from age 13 and hating how mean she was to ducky and choosing that whine-y a-hole to age 25 and thinking ducky was kind of stalker-y and overly possessive and still hating the whine-y a hole. Also her dress at the end makes me want to puke. Ducky is really cute though.

peacocks, Wednesday, 21 July 2010 16:38 (thirteen years ago) link

i am the rare viewer of Pretty in Pink who did not have a problem with her not picking Duckie. figured hughes was committed to his across-the-tracks romance and also Duckie read as gay to me.

When I was little I really loved (still do tbh) the OMD song that is played during the prom scene. I wanted it on tape so I held a tape recorder up to the TV when it was on once and taped the whole scene. I know the last 10 mins by heart because I listened to that recording so much.

"This is a very romantic moment and you're ruining it for me . . . "

So when L and I lived in England he tried for a while to find P in P for me on DVD but it hadn't been released in the UK. He finally found it and excitedly ordered it for me and had it delivered to his office as we did with all packages. The day it was delivered he was talking to a bunch of people while opening his mail and they all saw him take Pretty in Pink out of the envelope only it wasn't the P in P we're talking about here. It was a porn that he'd just opened in front of his manager.

sarahel, Wednesday, 21 July 2010 16:53 (thirteen years ago) link

x-post lol yep! Thankfully his manager was an awesome guy but they all made fun of him as he tried to explain the mix up and it took a while for him to live it down.

Don't I know you from somewhere? Gym. Your name's Jim?

heh - i was just wondering - who played Molly Ringwald's awesome friend?

sarahel, Wednesday, 21 July 2010 17:11 (thirteen years ago) link

thought of this thread yesterday - a male friend referred to the pee style as the "ladyfunnel" - also, going back to something way way upthread, had conversation with another girl about pubescent memories of seeing David Bowie's junk in Labyrinth - this made quite an impression on her, again, I have no memory of this, I only remember the boots. I had such a wholesome upbringing.

sarahel, Monday, 26 July 2010 19:54 (thirteen years ago) link

oh! that reminds me of the name of the thing my mom bought me when i turned 16. i got my driver's license and she presented me with "le funnelle", a female urinary aid. "you know, just in case you really have to pee by the side of the road at some point. just keep them in your glove compartment. let's hope you never need them." she also forced me to tote around a reflective thermal blanket just in case i got into an accident in the winter.

ghee hee hee (La Lechera), Monday, 26 July 2010 19:56 (thirteen years ago) link

it was a little box of paper funnels that you hold up to your crotch and pee into. they were disposable.
i tried one once inside (in a bathroom) to see if they worked, and they did. never had to use one on the road, though.

ghee hee hee (La Lechera), Monday, 26 July 2010 19:58 (thirteen years ago) link

wow - your mom is even more pragmatic than mine! Mine would always tell me to make sure to wear clean underwear and would regularly buy me flashlights to keep in the car.

sarahel, Monday, 26 July 2010 19:59 (thirteen years ago) link

If you have to pee by the side of the road, why not just squat? Especially if you are 16 and have young knees.

I rewatched Labyrinth a couple of months ago and I was pleased at how well it held up and shocked (seriously) at David Bowie's wang in those pants.

she didn't want me to worry about getting pee on my clothes!

ghee hee hee (La Lechera), Monday, 26 July 2010 20:03 (thirteen years ago) link

that was what this girl was saying (about Labyrinth holding up)

sarahel, Monday, 26 July 2010 20:04 (thirteen years ago) link

Also, every time I discuss this movie, I get the "You remind me of the babe What babe? The babe with the power!" song in my head. Also, have we already talked about the line "Smack that baby, make him pee"? Because what the hell. And, in conclusion:

sinister chemical wisdom (Jenny), Monday, 26 July 2010 20:04 (thirteen years ago) link

also squatting is undignified, but standing and peeing like a man with a proper paper funnel penis is ok

ghee hee hee (La Lechera), Monday, 26 July 2010 20:05 (thirteen years ago) link

I wish I could find this letter (one of very few) that my grandmother wrote to me when I lived in Colorado in which she describes having to stop and pee by the side of the rode while wearing an all purple outfit and accidentally falling over, but, being old, being unable to stop peeing, which in turn made her laugh, which made her pee harder, and it is one of the funniest things I have ever read in my life. My grandmother is also short and round, and she described herself as a "little grape" in her all purple outfit.

sinister chemical wisdom (Jenny), Monday, 26 July 2010 20:08 (thirteen years ago) link

haha i rewatched labyrinth several months ago b/c my bro txted me to say he was watching it on tv. i starting watching on komputor and txted back "i forgot that this was a movie about david bowie's package!!"

wow yall. this was a lot to catch up on. i've been reading this thread and trying to get a foothold for like, 2 weeks now.

hahaha re: prioritizing sanitation - like how at age 28 i was travelling and suddenly was just like fuck this hostel shit we're staying in a hotel. never go back.

  • y'all! y'all! y'all! y'all! y'all!
i have stayed in a hotel in band situations like 10 times out of probably 150 touring nights of my life. also, on this last tour, i slept in some of the grossest places i have ever slept in my life. this is NOT braggin' 2010, tho -- in my personal life, i adore hotels and sometimes go to the next town over (esp. a gateway town to the Smokies) and just rent a hotel for a couple nights and chill out with my BF and do homework. In a band, though...well, no 22-y/o metalhead can admit to being able to afford that.

i have a mikita - it used to be my mom's so it's got sentimental value - but mikitas are kinda wussy compared to Dewalts

sarahel, Wednesday, 8 September 2010 08:53 (thirteen years ago) link

My mom recently got a small ryobi hand drill that I want. I have a junky old box of tools that I need to clean out and update. I like stuff like this:

peacocks, Wednesday, 8 September 2010 14:48 (thirteen years ago) link

xp to roxy: The worst hotel I ever stayed at was in southwest Georgia. You could see the sky through a hole in the ceiling patched with rotting wooden boards and there was carpet. in the bathroom. the bathroom. It was squishy and moldy.

peacocks, Wednesday, 8 September 2010 14:51 (thirteen years ago) link

ryobi's are kinda crappy drills, tbh -

it's basically: dewalt >>>>>>> mikita >>>>>>>>> ryobi

sarahel, Wednesday, 8 September 2010 18:12 (thirteen years ago) link

Really? That ryobi is pretty sturdy.

peacocks, Wednesday, 8 September 2010 18:31 (thirteen years ago) link

depends on what you're using it for ... why am i being a power tool snob on ilx, that's totally retarded.
