i also think i'm gonna try using my magic eraser mop to wash my walls

sarahel, Monday, 19 July 2010 19:51 (fourteen years ago) link

There are benefits to not knowing how to do some things! I don't think I have ever washed a wall in my life.

xp Yes, I have a friend who is usually that person and probably will continue to be that person but it would still be good for me to learn to feel comfortable going places alone and talking to new people.

peacocks, Monday, 19 July 2010 19:52 (fourteen years ago) link

is said friend male or female? Though that's more an issue of talking to new people for purposes of dating vs. just meeting people

sarahel, Monday, 19 July 2010 19:55 (fourteen years ago) link

i need to wash my walls too. and then paint them!
(i explained the magic eraser to my newish guy friend on sat night and he was amazed and a little freaked out by its magical powers. this was in the context of him having just moved into a place and it needing further cleaning. i wasn't just randomly talking about household cleaning products.)

I like it when people are amazed and freaked out by products I mention such as the diva cup, the feeldoe or the pee style

peacocks, Monday, 19 July 2010 19:59 (fourteen years ago) link

i was reading this book a while ago about how people are affected by their physical environments, and there was a part about messiness and clutter and an anecdote about how when rats are depressed they fail to keep their nests tidy, and my immediate goal is to have my apartment not look like it's inhabited by a mentally ill rodent.

sarahel, Monday, 19 July 2010 20:01 (fourteen years ago) link

^^ should be rodents, plural, my ex-bf was equally responsible for the state of the apartment - so that's over a decade's worth of depressed rat's nest to tidy

sarahel, Monday, 19 July 2010 20:02 (fourteen years ago) link

haha i did not know about the latter 2. i love diva cup though!

the girl with the butt tattoo (harbl), Monday, 19 July 2010 20:04 (fourteen years ago) link

i generally avoid hygiene products i can't get at a 24 hour store - just based on my known habits

sarahel, Monday, 19 July 2010 20:05 (fourteen years ago) link

My nest gets filthier the gloomier I am and when my nest is filthy I get gloomy.

peacocks, Monday, 19 July 2010 20:05 (fourteen years ago) link

my nest is extra filthy right now because it's too hot to clean

the girl with the butt tattoo (harbl), Monday, 19 July 2010 20:06 (fourteen years ago) link

well you can have the diva cup forever because it is made of silicone.

peacocks, Monday, 19 July 2010 20:06 (fourteen years ago) link

i got new curtains and felt a lot better

i like cleaning when it's hot - because if i'm going to be sweaty and gross, i might as well be doing something productive to somewhat distract myself from the sweaty and grossness.

sarahel, Monday, 19 July 2010 20:07 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah i don't know why it tells you you should only keep it for 10 years. maybe it will spontaneously combust in your vag. i think i've had it for 5 now, though. xpost

the girl with the butt tattoo (harbl), Monday, 19 July 2010 20:08 (fourteen years ago) link

I need new curtains, and I need to put up the ones I already have that are still in a box from moving 3 months ago.

peacocks, Monday, 19 July 2010 20:09 (fourteen years ago) link

the diva cup just makes me want to put a microphone in it and record myself singing arias

sarahel, Monday, 19 July 2010 20:09 (fourteen years ago) link

LOL @ things spontaneously combusting in my vag.

xpost

peacocks, Monday, 19 July 2010 20:10 (fourteen years ago) link

love the diva cup, but I had to Google the feeldoe and P. style. I can imagine this being difficult to explain. (The diva cup too–people think it's so gross, when actually it's the best thing ever during my period)

XP I've had my diva cup for seven years. No spontaneous combustion yet.

JuliaA, Monday, 19 July 2010 20:11 (fourteen years ago) link

spontaneous combustion is no joke, yo!

sarahel, Monday, 19 July 2010 20:11 (fourteen years ago) link

the feeldoe is one of those things I may never get to use and probably don't want to be in a circumstance where I would use it but I kind of really want to try it. y'know? But I mean, who knows where I'll be and who I'll be with in weeks/months/years!

the animated deer wagging its tail is making me LOL

sarahel, Monday, 19 July 2010 20:15 (fourteen years ago) link

I don't know what the other two things are and I'm not googling them from work, but I can vouch for my Keeper, it's got to be 14 years and counting!

the soul of the avocado escapes as soon as you open it (Laurel), Monday, 19 July 2010 20:15 (fourteen years ago) link

the feeldoe is a sex toy

sarahel, Monday, 19 July 2010 20:16 (fourteen years ago) link

the pee style is a little flume that lets you pee while standing up. apparently in the full monty there are girls who can do this just by pushing their vag area's forward? I never saw the movie.

peacocks, Monday, 19 July 2010 20:18 (fourteen years ago) link

there's an apostrophe in that that's confusing me

sarahel, Monday, 19 July 2010 20:18 (fourteen years ago) link

diva cup rules (i recently replaced my rubber Keeper with it! i feel like i've gone from 90s nu-hippy to 2000s modern eco-gal. lol advertising.)

feeldoe! i had no idea! wows

my immediate goal is to have my apartment not look like it's inhabited by a mentally ill rodent.
hahaha ohman. for a while there in winter when i was feeling down, i thought my place was crazy messy, but this is all relative, b/c i also visited other people's houses and the messyness was rat-style crazy to me. winter here is ridic! that said, i am watering a friend's plants while she's away for a week and her place is, er, chaotic. i really want to clean and tidy, but...

sarahel, Monday, 19 July 2010 20:21 (fourteen years ago) link

Hips/pubic area...thing. I've seen the movie, and they do appear to be peeing standing up perfectly well. Remember they're aiming into a trough on the floor, though, not anything higher than that. I've certainly been in some bathrooms in my life where I'd have peed in the sink if I could, but at that angle/height it's completely impossible.

the soul of the avocado escapes as soon as you open it (Laurel), Monday, 19 July 2010 20:22 (fourteen years ago) link

Laurel - are we gonna get on the topic of foot flushing?

sarahel, Monday, 19 July 2010 20:22 (fourteen years ago) link

Pretty sure every woman can do that but the aim isn't necessarily that great.

o sh!t a ˁ˚ᴥ˚ˀ (ENBB), Monday, 19 July 2010 20:24 (fourteen years ago) link

ENBB otm

sarahel, Monday, 19 July 2010 20:24 (fourteen years ago) link

Sarahel you know that I had a whole freaking thread on foot flushing, right?

o sh!t a ˁ˚ᴥ˚ˀ (ENBB), Monday, 19 July 2010 20:24 (fourteen years ago) link

yes!!! I hadn't even heard of foot flushing until that thread - then I asked a bunch of friends about it, and it turned out that my bf (now ex-bf) was an occasional foot flusher, and I had no clue! Like, we'd been together over a decade and it was like he had a secret life that was suddenly exposed to me.

sarahel, Monday, 19 July 2010 20:26 (fourteen years ago) link

ha!

I wish I could use a keeper but it's not recommended for use with an IUD. I know there are women with IUDs who have used them but I really really don't like the idea of risking it and ripping out my own.

o sh!t a ˁ˚ᴥ˚ˀ (ENBB), Monday, 19 July 2010 20:28 (fourteen years ago) link

it was kinda like in "The History of Violence" when Viggo's wife finds out about his former life -- I think we did joke about whether he was turned on by cheerleader uniforms after that, and he said no.

sarahel, Monday, 19 July 2010 20:28 (fourteen years ago) link

I only flush with my foot in public restrooms that aren't work.

peacocks, Monday, 19 July 2010 20:29 (fourteen years ago) link

xp. god I hated that movie

peacocks, Monday, 19 July 2010 20:30 (fourteen years ago) link

why did you hate it?

sarahel, Monday, 19 July 2010 20:31 (fourteen years ago) link

I liked that movie a lot.

Yeah see I didn't really that flushing toilets with their feet was something that anyone did ever until two of my old co-workers mentioned it and acted like I was insane for not knowing about it.

o sh!t a ˁ˚ᴥ˚ˀ (ENBB), Monday, 19 July 2010 20:31 (fourteen years ago) link

half the people I surveyed (i think it was only about 14 people actually) were foot flushers.

sarahel, Monday, 19 July 2010 20:32 (fourteen years ago) link

more male than female foot flushers - which could be because men's toilets tend to be grosser?

sarahel, Monday, 19 July 2010 20:33 (fourteen years ago) link

I have also been known to open parking garage stairwell doors with my foot.

xp I hated History of Violence because it was just not enjoyable for me at all. I am really sensitive to domestic violence and rape and it just was one horrible bloody nightmare after another. The only scenes I can picture right now are at the beginning where they murder that family in the drug store and then the scene where he angrily rapes his wife on the stairs and it seems like she starts liking it? While crying?? It wasn't bad enough for me to walk out of the theater but I remember being incredibly put off by the whole thing from start to finish. I have liked bloody and violent movies in the past, too- although maybe now I wouldn't? I think I am becoming increasingly more sensitive to this kind of thing as I get older. I can't watch any of those law and order shows.

peacocks, Monday, 19 July 2010 20:39 (fourteen years ago) link

I <3 the Diva Cup. I will investigate the feeldoe when I am not at work.

I have a lady friend who can pee standing up by manipulating her vulva. She was telling us all about it one night when we were out drinking and I decided to try it in the bathroom of the bar, but thank goodness, was overcome with a wave of good judgment. She recommended that I start practicing in the shower.

I am a foot flusher. I am also a borderline clean freak.

We're in the process of moving right now (the movers come on Friday) and my orderly, clean world is upside down and I am a leeeeeetle stressed about it.

Ugh, Peacocks, I haven't seen History of Violence either but that is pretty much why I have not particularly wanted to. I think my husband saw it and confirmed my suspicions that it was Not For Me.

sinister chemical wisdom (Jenny), Monday, 19 July 2010 20:41 (fourteen years ago) link

VULVA! Manipulating the vulva. Yes I will have to practice in the shower, too.
