1972-Mexico City- Great 3 weeks with 4nnette P3arce staying in cheap hotels and fighting off frequent attacks of diarrhoea.We stayed for a few days at a place called Zihuatanejo on the Pacific coast (it later achieved fame as the place that the convicts escaped to in the Shawshank Redemption) . Walking down the street one day a caged parrot shouted "buenos dios senor" at me. Amazing as it had never occurred to me that not all parrots speak English.We parted company at the bus station in Mexico City as she had to go back to her job in Kingston and I haven't heard of her since!

1981- Sheffield. This is X, our neighbour at X Road, a good lad but with a weakness for Tetley's Bitter. Ken went on holiday once but couldn't find anyone to water his collection of pot plants. He came up with a brilliant idea. He put the pot plants in the bath, put the plug in and set the tape to drip one drip every couple of minutes. When he came back a fortnight later the bath had overflowed, the bathroom was caked in potting compost and the ceiling of the kitchen below had collapsed!
