it took me a year or two to figure out what ilx meant by smh, bcz even irl ppl stopped saying "the herald" and switched to "the smh" for the dead tree version, after the url gained ubiq 10 yrs back
(you drop the definite article to refer to the web version, as in "it's on smh" or "did you check smh?")

"ymmv" is my least favorite because it doesnt really make any sense the way people use it
― Oink Administrator (gr8080), Saturday, 9 April 2011 22:27 (thirteen years ago) link
i know its commonly accepted that "your mileage may vary" is interchangeable with "i don't like it but maybe you might" but it bugs me cause thats way different from: "depending on what kind of route you're taking and how much traffic you're sitting it, you may get more or less miles on a tank of gas with the same vehicle"
― Oink Administrator (gr8080), Saturday, 9 April 2011 22:32 (thirteen years ago) link
i used to wonder if it stood for 'you make me vomit' but disappointingly it didn't. i still pretend it does anyway, it livens things up.
