a very strong but dull burning pain in my calf muscle, like right next to the bone when i roll over while i sleep. bad enough to wake me up. i got an extremely bad bruise on my calf like 3 weeks ago skiing.

i would get this checked out in case of a blood clot, someone i know hurt his leg recently and it still didn't feel right a couple of weeks later and it turned out he's got 19 blood clots in his leg, so it's a new worry of mine.

did he suggest a diagnosis?

estela thanks, i actually have been contemplating doing this, but here's why i havent (aside from not wanting to go on blood thinners):

in 2001 i had basically identical symptoms in my upper leg following a really severe blow to my thigh muscle. went to the doc after a couple of weeks, he shrugged and ordered an mri. i went to do mri, but tech told me the instrux were for an mri of my knee, so i cancelled it, since that wouldn't even image the area i was experiencing the pain in. w/in a couple of days i did a hard cyclocross race. when i woke up the next morning i had a huge visible bruise just above the outside of my knee and everything felt normal again. yknow, my doc did not seem to really believe my story. so here i am.

amazingly in the past 9 hours i have come down with shingles. i gather i have some rotten times ahead. luckily i was suspicious and went straight to the doctor and got medicine, apparently the quicker you take it the better.

not to make light of your predicament estela but now I realize that shingles is what that one dude at the gym must have had. god I'm bringing a bleached towel the next time I go!

shingles isn't contagious, i don't think?!

also: my sympathy is with you, estela - both my little sis and my mum got in within a few months of each and it was pretty painful for both of them. but apparently catching it quickly is def the way to lessen its impact.

Laurel, I'm all alive and at stupid work as usual. I didn't fess up to the doc about the ear thing. Last time I complained about something they took my ability to create life away and, as you guys well know, that's really the only thing I like to do. It was like my superpower. So I learned my lesson - my lips are zipped. Actually before I complained about the other thing I had always had very low blood pressure. I think they broke me in more ways than one.

sunny, you have stage 2 hypertension (there is no stage 3), and you are bleeding spontaneously from the ears, and you're not mentioning the latter to your physician because...? genuinely curious over here

Nope all true. The past 6 months have been v. bad - 3 surgeries (2 major,1 exploratory) 4 months of constant excruciating abdominal pain that 60-80mg of oxycodone a day could only take the sharpest edge off. In my oxyc- pain combo delirium I agreed to something I never ever would have considered otherwise and now I am in sparodic pain and narcoticfree and mentally/emotionally more angry than I've been since...well maybe ever. Anyways, I plan to check my bp on the weekend. I'm still willing to bet this is some left field anomaly and everything will be back to normal when I check next but we'll see.

Okay so I stopped taking adderal last Thursday and figured by now my bp would be back to normal but I checked it today and it's 176/117. WTF??

please go to the doctor, sunny, i don't want you to have a stroke. i'm not being dramatic, my uncle died at 27 from being blase about this.

srsly sunny, it sounds like some bad shit went down between you and the medical community but those symptoms are super alarming + nothing to treat lightly

so ive been off adderall for a week, started taking blood pressure meds saturday, took my bp today and it was 167/109. i mean WTF?? then i went to see my therapist who i never really talk tom about anything except what drugs i can get and i flipped out on this tirade about how angry i am about the past 6 months and how when i see a guy checking me out i want to jump out of my car and beat him to death with a baseball bat and he said 'uhhh, kate, anger has been linked to high blood pressure'. me: 'oh. right.'
