Hitchens's rhetorical style is almost as faulty as the religious people he criticizes. Take a bite out of this, homos:
There are also those who think that Romney's disowning of past Mormon polygamy is too opportunistic, since the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints does still offer the consolation prize of multiple wives in heaven (just like the sick dream of Mohamed Atta).
What purpose does making that comparison serve other than to associate Romney with an established Enemy of America (EoA)? It mistakes degree and extent based on casual association to a shallow, muckrakey effect.

File even if you owe, even if you can't pay, even if you claim crazy deductions. Get an extension but do not fail to declare income to the IRS. You'll pay either way. IRS keeps track of this and technically when, not if, they find you, you could get audited, penalities, probation, criminal record (fraud is considered moral turpitude).-- felicity, Monday, April 14, 2008 12:02 AM (18 minutes ago) Bookmark Link

haha, where'd you dig up my old comments from? Roxymuzak, I guess your concern is with my use of elision, which is a weird dialect tick I inherited from my oldschool Mid Atlantic family.

or whatever the fuck you call it, where you leave out phrases to shorten sentences in spoken englihs.

We took our eye off the ball being distracted by Starbucks and let those torture and debt guys get into power and run the country into the ground. That may be how we'll look back on the past 10 years. Soon enough we'll be nostalgic about gentrification, as opposed to storefronts closing without new replacements, and for the years when a coffeeshop with a fireplace was the target of our righteousness.

Who are these people who are more upset about Starbucks than about the Bush administration, and are they perhaps busy scaring off crows or taking practice jousts as we speak?
― Hurting 2, Monday, 14 April 2008 16:16 (eighteen years ago)
the same people that were worried about some kind of boats four years later?
― darraghmac, Monday, 14 April 2008 16:19 (eighteen years ago)
well, in eazy's post it's past tense, so he/she meant ratm-listening kids back in the 90's, no?
― bug, Monday, 14 April 2008 16:26 (eighteen years ago)
Yeah actually I guess s/he might mean pre-2000 elections, in which case that would be kind of true.

I crossed the rubicon back in february after spending a couple hours listening to car radio, reaching the point where if I heard ONE MORE lame rap about "shorty" getting down & dirty in da club my head would explode.

it was hard for me to tell from his response to that naipaul book exactly why he dug it so much. a lot of people were all, what is the deal with this islam? post-9/11. especially lol old people.
― horseshoe, Sunday, 4 May 2008 21:23 (eighteen years ago)
yeah maybe im being harsh but i remember that book being like a better-written bernard lewis screed, a lot of "islam is a backwards and militaristic religion" etc etc... i sort of assumed his jaw had dropped at "oh my how barbaric islam is!!" but i might have misinterpreted him
― max, Sunday, 4 May 2008 21:34 (eighteen years ago)
no, i mean that was how i read it, too, but i am weirdly sympathetic to people who admit having that reaction to islam, maybe because i expect that every nonmuslim secretly harbors it?
― horseshoe, Sunday, 4 May 2008 21:36 (eighteen years ago)
suspect, not expect. anyway.
lololol u found me out dawg! i think muslims are mostly terrorists, or backwards primitives!! pls dont tell anyone!!
― max, Sunday, 4 May 2008 21:44 (eighteen years ago)
lol sorry max i think that was a long digression about how i'm a self-hater. it wasn't actually about other people.
― horseshoe, Sunday, 4 May 2008 21:45 (eighteen years ago)
nah i was jking i didnt think you were accusing me of racism, self-hatred is the best kind, plus it gives u an excuse not to talk to white people
