That map would make at least one or two people kind of upset if the "Russian prof" had any clue whatsoever about USA politics, geography, or how to put down a flask of potato vodka.

Russian professor "under potato influence"Also, Tennessee part of the EU? Also, what would that do to the Eurovision Song Contest? I mean, apart from Wogan complaining about block voting by former US states?

question: how is it possible that this map, dated 28 Dec 2008, was posted on 26 Mar 2008? am i reading it wrong?
― lxy, Monday, 29 December 2008 19:31 (seventeen years ago)
Because it's been updated? Different image, same filename and URL?

It's linked to an image that is refreshed each day.

HEY I was just looking for this the other day!!!!
Was having heated discussion about how much of the land you drive by that isn't a state or federal park but is, say, empty fields or unused or deserted/demolished properties...how much of it is privately owned?
State and Nat't parks and Indian reservations and whatever else qualifies as federal land, that's one thing. But just normal lots that aren't those things...does anyone know about ownership stats? I can't figure out how to find out in a general kind of way.

I'm not much of a real estate person, Laurel, but the best thing I can think of is to look at zoning maps for individual districts/towns/counties. in the US you can usually find them on county websites, and the helpful ones will break it down as military, , state-owned, town-owned, conservation land, etc. on a micro level. a lot of unused land is privately owned but designated by the government as open space, meaning that for aesthetic or environmental reasons, the landowner isn't allowed to build on it. but a lot of government land (like state parks) is also considered open space, and I don't know where you'd find statistics on public vs. private open space.
