thinking baout getting a cat. an orange one. should it be a kitty or older?
i have never had a pet before, tho my wife has. what if it is always running away like ian's cat? what if it dies and i get sad forever? scary
― mookieproof, Sunday, 25 October 2009 16:22 (sixteen years ago)
FWIW my cat has stopped his running away. Also, if you don't want to run the risk, don't let him or her outside--simple as that. I had no option rilly cuz my cat learned how to go out the doggy door and doggy must be allowed in the backyard for peeing etc.
Cats are great, get one. I'd go to an animal shelter (BARC in wburg is good--all cats fixed, given shots etc.) and see what they have. It's often harder for shelters to find homes for adult cats, probably because they aren't as 'cute' but they're also usually a lot more mellow and easy going.

i wish i had a camera, i would take picture of the house dog Geo. I don't even know what his breed is. I'm so bad with breeds.
― ian, Sunday, 25 October 2009 19:26 (sixteen years ago)
i think i met that dog once! he was cool.
― tehresa, Sunday, 25 October 2009 19:26 (sixteen years ago)
that dog says retriever mix but it's obviously half pit, which i don't usually like but it is growing on me
― harbl, Sunday, 25 October 2009 19:28 (sixteen years ago)
tza, the old dog moved out--her name was Kiriku. New dog is three-legged and very friendly. I think he might be part pitbull but tbh i have no idea..

― e\m/ily (roxymuzak), Sunday, 25 October 2009 20:43 (sixteen years ago)
mookie do it! I got an adult rescue for the reasons mentioned above, and she has been my BKFF for like 12 years now.
do not under any circumstances name your kitty after a dook basketball player, tho
― quincie, Sunday, 25 October 2009 22:30 (sixteen years ago)
should an apartment kitty have front claws or be declawed? if an adult rescue has a name already can you change it or will the cat be all wtf? you know, so i can name it 'dean smith' . . .
― mookieproof, Sunday, 25 October 2009 23:38 (sixteen years ago)
haha i don't think cats care if you change their name. but i've never asked one.declawing seems uncommon lately? i remember all my friends' cats were declawed when i was little. now the consensus seems to be it's cruel. could be just people i know though. cat i had this summer was not declawed. i got used to avoiding her claws, except when she ran over me while i was sleeping.
― harbl, Sunday, 25 October 2009 23:56 (sixteen years ago)
i wouldn't do it personally. it's easy to avoid making a cat angry enough that she purposely scratches you. the only concern is training them not to scratch furniture, etc. and cats don't like to learn so it's hard.
― harbl, Monday, 26 October 2009 00:00 (sixteen years ago)
haha, this:
so cat was going on her nightly rampage where she uses furniture as her own little obstacle course and pretends she is a gymnast, and something slipped and she went flying through the air (like i saw her upside down in slow motion) and she tried to grab onto my arm and scratched it pretty deep. she is ok but i am i gonna get[catscratchfever.jpg]please help

never declaw cat
― e\m/ily (roxymuzak), Monday, 26 October 2009 01:52 (sixteen years ago)
yeah, you can keep a cats nails trimmed & getting a scratching post, it's not too difficult. Ivan never scratches me but he does beat up on furniture a bit.

My mom just had a cat declawed. I was mildly horrified, but I guess she doesn't go out anyway and all the other cats were behaving fine, but this ONE would not stop destroying things. :( I think she needs a home w/o a dog or other cats in it, and we just can't provide that, but who's gonna adopt a pain in the ass who cries and destroys furniture??
Thanks a lot, sister who wanted a neurotic Persian and then left it at home when she moved out.

GROOAAAAN.
my cat does not understand rain. he just whines and whines at the door until i finally give in, then he feels the cold dampness and doesn't go out, so i close the door and he starts whining again! eventually i just dropped him outside the door onto the wet pavement/pouring rain and he darted back inside, but was back at his whining to go out 15 minutes later.
this was at 7am when i was trying to sleep btw.

my old cat once leapt high into the air and swiped a moth out of the sky with his razor sharp claw. then she ate it. it was half matrix, half blech.
so right now.
*****looks at fat bastard old orange tabby on back of sofa that is watching the snow dump outside the window*****
"manny, i am considering you."
"human, i am owning you, this house, and all dimensions."

wikipedia says "the pupils of a caracal's eyes contract to form circles rather than the slits found in most small cats."
