KOAC reminds me of you, Adam. He talks in RHYMES and RIDDLES. Also, after Make a Star 9, you find out that he's a Scot.

experimental grandma (deangulberry), Thursday, 21 October 2004 15:52 (nineteen years ago) link

You're already at MAKE A STAR 9???????

I got Stretch Panic too. Japanese games are WEIRD (like WILCO).

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:07 (nineteen years ago) link

I made an amazing star 3 (SUGOOOOOOOOOI) but now I'm stuck on star 4.

Seriously, does KOAC say anything relevant to gameplay ever? I can only translate about 1/16 of what he says.

Laura E (laurae55), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:19 (nineteen years ago) link

It's not terribly relevant but it's pretty funny. In the English version, it seems to me like it's 50% deliberate aloofness / 50% awkward translation.

experimental grandma (deangulberry), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:29 (nineteen years ago) link

KOAC says out loud the things that most of us only THINK.

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:30 (nineteen years ago) link

It's true. It's pretty damn funny in certain parts, but that SCREEN OF FAILURE with the POURING RAIN OF REGRET is soulcrushing ;(

experimental grandma (deangulberry), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:31 (nineteen years ago) link

He gets genuinely stoked if you like collect like 80%+ of all maximum objects... like if you double+ what the suggested size or if you get to the suggested size fast (and then you get a "shooting star").

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:36 (nineteen years ago) link

Is there any significance to the presents that he recieves? I see that he can wear them in the monitor while you're rolling the katamari, but does it help in any way?

experimental grandma (deangulberry), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:42 (nineteen years ago) link

The prince is awesome. I like how he flies from planet to planet.

The two-player mode is a little disappointing, though. I wish they didn't have arena-style levels like that, it gets repetitive.

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:44 (nineteen years ago) link

the presents are just bonus. i can't figure out the cousins purpose (for 1 player mode).

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 21 October 2004 17:07 (nineteen years ago) link

Isn't the cousins/mushroom mode for two player only? I figured that it was only showing up for me because I had both controllers plugged in. Does it still show up when you've only one controller plugged in?

experimental grandma (deangulberry), Thursday, 21 October 2004 17:16 (nineteen years ago) link

yes sir. have you checked your game progress? i have not been playing because of the amazing baseball playoffs but will resume in a week or two i'm sure.

laura, are you watching the Japan Series?

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 21 October 2004 17:18 (nineteen years ago) link

I had to do something other than watch the middle of last night's game. It was too stressful.

experimental grandma (deangulberry), Thursday, 21 October 2004 17:19 (nineteen years ago) link

are you kidding me? that was a blowout!

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 21 October 2004 17:20 (nineteen years ago) link

I'm not watching it, but my manager is crazy about the Dragons and there's some sort of crazy drum banging thing that happens in the local arcade every time there is a big game, so most of the details eventually filter down to me.

Laura E (laurae55), Thursday, 21 October 2004 17:24 (nineteen years ago) link

Nice! my best friend grew up near Seibu's turf and his younger brother is a maniac for the Lions. I got him a NY Mets hat for Kazuo Matsui who debuted in the USA this year, his favorite player. I've been watching on yahoo! sports japan when i get a chance.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 21 October 2004 17:27 (nineteen years ago) link

I am not kidding you. I was waiting for the Red Sox to blow their lead. Also, katamari + cough syrup >>>>>> baseball + cough syrup.

experimental grandma (deangulberry), Thursday, 21 October 2004 17:29 (nineteen years ago) link

I have 2 more on topic questions: Is the awesome Japanese chanting and scatting in the English version? And on the planet of challenges, what is the option that, like the next numbered star, is a green circle but takes you to the KOAC? But is not numbered? (Unclear enough?)

Laura E (laurae55), Thursday, 21 October 2004 17:29 (nineteen years ago) link

There was some Japanese vocal stuff in the beginning, iirc. It might have been during the opening movie only, though. Where does this occur on your version?

So far, I've gotten to Make a Star 9 and my planet doesn't have anything other then options to make stars or constellations.

experimental grandma (deangulberry), Thursday, 21 October 2004 18:08 (nineteen years ago) link

In the English version the KOAC's vocals sound like record scracthing.
His english monologues concern the places he's been, his precise concerns regarding the qualities of the katamari he desires, and the exact and many ways in which he's dissapointed. Seems like Momus at times.

Loose Translation: Sexy Dancer (sexyDancer), Thursday, 21 October 2004 18:27 (nineteen years ago) link

I don't want to give away any spoilers but Make The Moon will make you cream a frothy plasmatic substance from every pore of your soul.

plan: stop at store for cough syrup, medicine ... eat dinner ... make katamaris.

experimental grandma (deangulberry), Thursday, 21 October 2004 23:24 (nineteen years ago) link

A huge katamari just rolled past my window, should I be worried.

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 21 October 2004 23:45 (nineteen years ago) link

If it's bigger than you or the building you're in, yeah.

I think I can kind of understand. It is fun because YOU CAN MAKE IT BIGGER? like the RPG thing where you MAKE IT MORE EXPERIENCED. SENSE OF ACCOMPLISHMENT VIA GROWING HUGE BALLS. IT IS SOMETHING WE ALL CAN ENJOY.

a friend just played 'make the moon' for me

wow. this game is something non-game players need to see.

(Jon L), Monday, 25 October 2004 03:31 (nineteen years ago) link

As a side note, the name means "soul clump."

Laura E (laurae55), Monday, 25 October 2004 03:47 (nineteen years ago) link

came very close to making my friend give me a videotape of him playing 'make the moon'. stopped myself though.

the star where you have to absorb as many virgin maidens as possible into your soul clump? when you absorb the grown women, they scream in terror. when you absorb the young girls, they giggle with joy.

(Jon L), Monday, 25 October 2004 04:27 (nineteen years ago) link

what is the quote?

"don't worry about losing, it is not your fault. it is our fault, for believing in you."

(Jon L), Monday, 25 October 2004 04:29 (nineteen years ago) link

Wow that sounds like some kind of fucked up parental guilt trip, damn.

Allyzay Science Explosion (allyzay), Monday, 25 October 2004 04:49 (nineteen years ago) link

that's exactly what your father, who is the King of All Cosmos, says to you when you lose a level.

(Jon L), Monday, 25 October 2004 04:59 (nineteen years ago) link

I was walking down the street today and starting seeing all objects around me as things i could potentially roll into a soul clump, and tried to envision the sequence of objects as I scaled up.

Has this happened to you??1

Laura E (laurae55), Monday, 25 October 2004 08:37 (nineteen years ago) link

OK. SOLD.

EYE WANT.

The King Of All Cosmos has nothing but nice things to say to me lately. :-D
