oh god, it was truly horrible. but cd store peeps and i were into the soundtrack so we went to see it. bad. bad. bad.

I was flipping through tv stations last night and did a "wtf, spawn?" when I went by whatever station it was on. The best/worst part is that it works pretty well as an indictment of how out of control comic book shit was in the early 90s.

a searing indictment of the whole corrupt system!

frankly I am kind of bummed I missed this.

I still remember watching all the HBO "omg this movie is going to be AWESOME" making-of docs.

I used to have that soundtrack too, but I later sold it to friend. Now I kinda regret it, because IIRC the Orbital/Hammett and Apollo 440/Morphine and Rollins/Goldie tunes were quite nice. The Prodigy/Morello tune was okay too, though I think there was better version of without Morello called "No Man Army". Or did I dream that one up?

``Spawn'' is best seen as an experimental art film. It walks and talks like a big budget horror film, heavy on special effects and pitched at the teenage audience, and maybe that's how it will be received. But it's more impressive if you ignore the genre and just look at what's on the screen. What we have here are creators in several different areas doing their best to push the envelope. The subject is simply an excuse for their art--just as it always is with serious artists.
