four weeks pass...

Dazzle Ships tonight. Low-key affair. Ridiculous flyer. Same records I played at the ISSUE Project Room benefit at Santos last night because I was too lazy to take them out of the car.

dan, i'm trying to find the thread where you had a picture of that awesome calendar you have and the details about who makes it. I am probably too late to buy one for 2009, huh?

mizzell, Wednesday, 3 December 2008 17:32 (seventeen years ago)

Dan,

Will there be copies of the Bumrocks LP at the Bumrocks Dazzle thingy or do I have to hunt it down somewhere else?

dmr, Wednesday, 3 December 2008 17:53 (seventeen years ago)

you have to hurry up with the Stendig calendars because they always sell out.

Apparently we're still on the fence about whether the next Dazzle Ships, wed Dec 17th, will be the Bumrocks release party. And if so, we probably won't have copies to sell, word is there aren't many copies around. If bumrocks can't make it, it will be a holiday party and we'll play nothing but the Winston Tong christmas tree rap from the Crepuscule xmas comp and Christmas Wrapping by the Waitresses over and over again.

For those interested, posted a recap of the Part Time Punks festival here:

Jeremy made that flyer. He goes out of his way to make ugly flyers sometimes. I almost did my own, but figured wtf.

Yes. Pretty misleading though. It was taken at a WFMU record fair years ago. Steve, who runs Iris Records in Jersey City and can be found all over the city on sunny weekends selling vinyl used that picture to promote the South Jersey record fair a few weeks ago and now this! For the record I was the one who suggested he use Warsaw for the Brooklyn Record Riot. I went to the first one and DJ'd. It was packed. I bought a Mars 12".

This very picture captures the exact moment I introduced Mike Simonetti to italo-disco by showing him a Fun Fun record, thus inspiring the Italians Do It Better label and changing the world.

Next someone will dig up the photo where I honor Professor Genius with his disco PHD. Before that he was just known as Master Genius.

dear dan selzer:

best bakery in woodside? there are so many

iatee, Wednesday, 27 January 2010 05:39 (sixteen years ago)

dan, do you know mikie well?

jaxon, Wednesday, 27 January 2010 05:43 (sixteen years ago)

I've never met mikie! Just emailing via facebook, sort of virtual friend of a friend thing via Josh, who I also don't know very well though I set up a last minute gig for him on a tuesday a year or so ago that only 4 of my friends showed up to.

I don't know much about bakeries...there's a little "italian" bakery though probably with not many/any italians called V+V or something on Roosevelt just past the LIRR that makes really awesome black and white cookies. Closer to Sunnyside on Skillman there's a pretty famous french bakery called Le Marjalaine which is really good. http://www.lamarjolainebakery.com/

Further down roosevelt there's some south american joints, one next to El Sitio in the high 60s makes good wheat empenadas.

What have you been digging in the area? Had a great meal at Zabb in Jackson Heights last night which I haven't had in ages. They have a few dishes that blow Srip out of the water though they don't have as consistently good and varied a menu as them.

dan selzer, Wednesday, 27 January 2010 13:46 (sixteen years ago)

ah, mikie just used to do a disco night at the same place i was doing one, so we'd go to each others' events. and josh and i are doing a kraut/minsyn/postpunk night together now.
