Steven Shasta,

how are you feeling today. you were kinda blitzkrieged last night.

jaxon.

jaxon (jaxon), Sunday, 14 January 2007 20:16 (nineteen years ago)

steve,

what do you think of flathead jeans??

vahid (vahid), Sunday, 14 January 2007 21:46 (nineteen years ago)

Stevers,
Why are there so many SD and North Counties bros on Noize Board? I lived there for fiften years and know none of them I think. Now I live in Bed-Stuy. Also, I'm considering buying a new fish for Sunset Cliffs and San Miguel trips. Twin or triple fin?

Jumping Into Jesus (wolfwolfwolf), Sunday, 14 January 2007 21:50 (nineteen years ago)

where / when

vahid (vahid), Monday, 15 January 2007 02:03 (nineteen years ago)

Jaxon! I woke up at 7:30am and left my house and just got home. LOOOONG day, fucking shit last night at RX, good times.

Vahid, The Flat Head is from Nagano, pretty disconnected from the majority of the Osaka/Tokyo denim mfg. scenes. I have a pair of their 44 501XX repros that are pretty nice, but when I compare them to my pair of deadstock vintage 44s that I got in Pasadena about 10 years ago that still had the tags and barely any fading so it's hard to measure up to them. But TFH is nice, like most brands, I only like their XX repro stuff... I'm not into their hard wear finishing, it's pretty corny.

If you look here, it's the 3003XX LOT#40.

I have some news for Allah Frog too... where is the Allah Frog?

JIJ,
North County lifestyle man. Pizza Port, Board N Brew and the Belly Up. Smokin blunts with the B-Side Players. Gettin barreled at Swami's with Gerlach hootin on the shoulder. Good times man, I can't explain. Go for the tri-skag attack for those gnarly Mexican sandbars that can pitch you out and over, you don't want to give up and slippage.

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Monday, 15 January 2007 06:32 (nineteen years ago)

you've never smoked blunts

jaxon (jaxon), Monday, 15 January 2007 07:02 (nineteen years ago)

Was where/when for/at me Vahid?
I split in 2005. Was in Ocean Beach last. We were running shows out of my house on Voltaire there for a while.

Jumping Into Jesus (wolfwolfwolf), Monday, 15 January 2007 07:04 (nineteen years ago)

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 17:42 (nineteen years ago)

steve, when did you start posting videos to youtube? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AVESRceJL5k

jaxon (jaxon), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 06:15 (nineteen years ago)

gabby,

Try any oily fish (salmon, even real oily like mackerel or anchovy) or meat (roast chicken, italian sausages). Maybe even vegetarian food with a lot of olive oil like greek/med.

jasun,

OMG how did you find that?!?!?!

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 15:48 (nineteen years ago)

thanks, steve

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 16:01 (nineteen years ago)

Shasta brah,

What's the news? I've been busy/distracted a lot lately. It isn't about Levi's raping all the repro companies, is it? Also, you aren't secretly an extreme yoyo master like Kiya, are you? Dude is crazy!

~AF

ALLAH FROG (Sleepy), Thursday, 18 January 2007 08:16 (nineteen years ago)

If you had been into denim 10-15 years ago, the same thing happened with Evis(u) and A.P.C.

Is rape when you infringe on international trademark laws and profit off of other people's ideas, copyrights and trademarks?

Or is rape when you try to put a stop to that and protect your property?

Very interesting take, i thought you were a little bit more knowledgable about the history of this. My bad. But listen to Kiya though, he knows what's up.

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Thursday, 18 January 2007 15:31 (nineteen years ago)

Nah, I am fine with Levi's doing their thing, I know the history regarding Evisu and other companies like Diesel they've taken to court before. I suppose I should have just worded it differently.

If anything, I'm interested in seeing how all the Japanese companies will respond in terms of how they change what they're making. While I do like the tabs, I personally prefer no arctuate, and don't own any pairs from companies that immitate Levi's leather patch.

The Japanese denim has always been attractive to me because of the quality of construction involved, above all else. I'd like to see Levi's putting out and marketing more of the best they are capable of making in the States, but it seems it hasn't been a big priority of late. Perhaps this move indicates this will be changing though?

ALLAH FROG (Sleepy), Thursday, 18 January 2007 23:25 (nineteen years ago)

i will let you know on 2/1/07

am0n (am0n), Friday, 19 January 2007 06:24 (nineteen years ago)

Some of those guys have collections that just shit all over everything, Vahid. Couple guys in Asia that each have something like 250+ pairs. Totally rediculous. I'm sure the average person considers even my smaller habit rediculous as well though.

ALLAH FROG (Sleepy), Friday, 19 January 2007 11:03 (nineteen years ago)

It's crazy how some of these people got so heavily involved into collecting in such a short period of time.

That collector guy's first pair of selvedge jeans were PRPS.

...

I mean, those are maybe (MAYBE) three seasons old.

I guess it's just people who want to jump on something hot. Very interesting. I am more interested in the collections from people with a little more knowledge about product and wear and long-term quality, rather than these flavor of the week folks.

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Friday, 19 January 2007 16:31 (nineteen years ago)

do you even wear jeans? or are they all in mylar bags?

attack all monsters (skowly), Friday, 19 January 2007 16:33 (nineteen years ago)

What's the connection between Gênes and Nîmes, anyway?

M. White (Miguelito), Friday, 19 January 2007 16:54 (nineteen years ago)

shasta, you going to this?

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Friday, 19 January 2007 16:58 (nineteen years ago)

skowly: yes. i get paid to.
mwhite: old sails for french ships being cut up for clothing.
kt: i cannot but thanks for the heads up!

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Friday, 19 January 2007 17:47 (nineteen years ago)

i heard the lamps new one is supposed to be great. less bash and thud than the first. i would surely love to see them again but they don't tour outside of cali/so. west.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Friday, 19 January 2007 17:51 (nineteen years ago)

I'm not even sure it's about jumping on something that has suddenly become (somewhat) fashionable, with those guys. Seems like a whole different crazy mentality. Interesting to me to see what folks are buying and own though, especially when they have nice vintage collections, or really well worn pieces.

ALLAH FROG (Sleepy), Saturday, 20 January 2007 03:21 (nineteen years ago)

"pieces"

i can't even imagine having the financial freedom to buy a $300 pair of jeans every month, just to keep them around unworn.

vahid (vahid), Saturday, 20 January 2007 06:36 (nineteen years ago)

Hey Steve,

Are you guys still going to be working with Kiya on some sort of collab? Details about what he's doing with Ironheart sound pretty nice, but if the above is happening, maybe I'll pass on the IHs. I will disagree for once with with wise Shasta about sizing, Vahid. In my experience, it can vary pretty widely between brands, so I'd just ask for measurements on whatever you're considering buying, if you can't try it on, and go from there.

ALLAH FROG (Sleepy), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 23:28 (nineteen years ago)

AF,

Not sure about that collab.

also: vahid was asking about LVC sizes.

Unwise Shasta

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 23:36 (nineteen years ago)

steve,

do you think this lawsuit signals an expansion of the LVC line? will it be possible to get 44s, 47s and 55s on the regular now??

also do you like Lee 101 B better or Lee 101 Z? Do you like wranglers?

vahid

vahid (vahid), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 03:39 (nineteen years ago)

44s are not currently in production in the US, just Japan and I think Europe has some.

47s are (and have been) available in the retail and online stores for a few seasons. there's also a 55 out there right now, but it's finished.

101Bs don't fit me right in the legs, but they look good on some gals. I had a pair of vintage Wrangler straights that I had since high school (that obv. don't fit me anymore) that I have nostalgia for.

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 18:25 (nineteen years ago)

if you could only have ONE pair of jeans, what would it be??

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 25 January 2007 05:44 (nineteen years ago)

probably the deadstock 44s i mention upthread on january 14th, 2007 post at 10:32pm which were found in a long abandoned warehouse near LA's garment district. i have been offered $500 cash for them, but that was like 5 years ago. they're beautiful.

that pasadena rosebowl swap meet/flea market used to be a goldmine before the vintage craze. you can still find stuff down there, just expect to pay through the nose with all the melrose thrift armies and japanese collectors showing up en masse.

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Thursday, 25 January 2007 15:46 (nineteen years ago)

yes, pasadena rosebowl also used to be the go-to place for bauer + russell wright + other california pottery. then it went nuts in the late 90s, i think there was a pic of some blonde celeb shopping for vintage pottery there and prices doubled like overnight.

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 25 January 2007 17:29 (nineteen years ago)

do you have this book steve?

the kwisatz bacharach (sanskrit), Friday, 26 January 2007 16:53 (nineteen years ago)

nope, why are you gonna go and do some shopping? i have 10 shops that i can recommend for ya.

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Friday, 26 January 2007 17:38 (nineteen years ago)

just looked like a curious book. i'd love to hear those recs one day when you have time. a man can dream.

I think that most noise dudes would have simultaneous orgasms/cardiac arrest here (and good luck finding it, it took me almost an hour):
