xpost
― dmr, Thursday, 7 February 2008 19:44 (eighteen years ago)
it's in the weirdest location... the Times ran a skeptical 'review' recently.
― Dr Morbius, Thursday, 7 February 2008 19:45 (eighteen years ago)
gabbnebish?
― Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Thursday, 7 February 2008 19:46 (eighteen years ago)
yeah I sorta doubt 4th Ave will "happen" in the way 5th and 7th did but I guess that's what they're banking on
― dmr, Thursday, 7 February 2008 19:47 (eighteen years ago)
They quote the rooms as $300-450!
An industrial neighborhood known as Gowanus, where new condos — with names like Novo and Argyle — are rising between auto repair shops and big box retailers. Le Bleu occupies a narrow lot with a Staples on one side, a taxi garage on the other.
The eighth-floor restaurant, Vue (named for its skyline vistas), is expected to open in the spring. For now, there’s a modest breakfast buffet of croissants and yogurt, which have to be carried to your room. The glass-walled lobby has precisely two chairs, and they aren’t comfortable.

4th ave is pretty meh. not dangerous, but it's a really busy, pretty ugly huge road. seems like a couple of bars/restaurants have opened, but it's pretty sparse. also may be a bit of a schlep to public transport.
― lauren, Thursday, 7 February 2008 19:50 (eighteen years ago)
"5 unlovely blocks" to the F train.
― Dr Morbius, Thursday, 7 February 2008 19:52 (eighteen years ago)
we got quoted a room w/2 double beds (to share between 4 people) $182.50
― jaxon, Thursday, 7 February 2008 19:52 (eighteen years ago)
also, who cares how many uncomfortable chairs there are in the loby?
― jaxon, Thursday, 7 February 2008 19:53 (eighteen years ago)
also may be a bit of a schlep to public transport
I dunno, it's only a couple blocks from the 4th & 9th subway. but yeah it's a weird street. lotta gas stations.
getting to the city would be easy, north brooklyn on the train maybe not so much
xposts again
― dmr, Thursday, 7 February 2008 19:54 (eighteen years ago)
oh, except this: With its cool color palette, stark furnishings and you-better-look-great-naked showers (whose clear glass walls face the bedroom)
http://travel.latimes.com/articles/la-tr-nyhotelssider13jan13
prob not gonna happen w/another couple in the room.
― jaxon, Thursday, 7 February 2008 19:56 (eighteen years ago)
I think 4th will go the way of 5th.
That part of 4th can be dangerous, if it's late at night it's best not to be alone. But most of those parts of brooklyn, you always have the chance of a mugging. It's smart to know what blocks to walk on. Don't go exploring gowanus canal at 4 in the morning.
― dan selzer, Thursday, 7 February 2008 20:59 (eighteen years ago)
4th is already gentrified. there is nothing stopping us but the canal.
― sanskrit, Thursday, 7 February 2008 21:23 (eighteen years ago)
and it was a stupid process too. i remember going over to friends apts on 4th, and we'd wish there would be a bar closer than o'connors. then all of a sudden 6 bars open at once.
― sanskrit, Thursday, 7 February 2008 21:24 (eighteen years ago)
i drove past that hotel once. it is on the most unlikely street ever.
― Yerac, Friday, 8 February 2008 01:15 (eighteen years ago)

Are you coming to Matm0s
― Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Saturday, 23 February 2008 02:08 (eighteen years ago)
yayyyyy elmooooooo yeah are you coming to matm0s?
― tehresa, Saturday, 23 February 2008 02:11 (eighteen years ago)
unfortunately i don't think so, i am obliged to birthday party boozing & not sure the stone would be a fun party time transition -- drew described it as being a dry, artsy type event? and i wouldn't want to get my drunk all over other ppl's noixe appreciation ;\
after matmos-seeing folk are done, perhaps there is meet-up-later possibilities?
― elmo argonaut, Saturday, 23 February 2008 02:19 (eighteen years ago)
I'm going to the 8pm show and then Black Dice
― Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Saturday, 23 February 2008 02:21 (eighteen years ago)
i think many are doing this. but yeah, stone can be a tad sterile at times, tho i'm sure the matmosing will be amazing and not sterile. also: early show = plenty of boozy time after?
