Almendra's second LP:
Disc One
Disc Two

Brilliant Argentine psych/prog. Side 3 (the beginning of disc two) is my favorite, probably. Four hard rockers. Mixed bag all around, one looooong freakout (Agnus Dei), some hard rockers, acoustic psych/pop.. all good stuff.

Moby Grape - "Dark Magic"

stupid boot split it up into two "parts", 1 + 2, but it's one continuous jam .. i'm way too lazy to use some kind of program to stitch it back together

Stormy Davis (diamond), Thursday, 9 March 2006 05:26 (twenty years ago)

i've never actually heard Moby Grape before this (rawesome) track. mainly because i'm not an Oar supporter. what's the rest of their stuff like? not all rawkin' like this, yeah?

team jaxon (jaxon), Thursday, 9 March 2006 05:59 (twenty years ago)

1st album sounds kinda like the best of the dead.

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Thursday, 9 March 2006 06:12 (twenty years ago)

rawesome harmonies, catchy songs.

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Thursday, 9 March 2006 06:13 (twenty years ago)

yeah, it's mostly concise, compact popish psych w/ a harder edge due to the jammage of the gtrs (they had three dudes who could play lead). But the songs are great. You would like them, I think. They don't really sound like Skip's solo stuff, he wasn't the leader or anything.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Thursday, 9 March 2006 06:14 (twenty years ago)

hi, this is not related to moby grape at all. i posted this on the wrong board.

that new JOnathan Kane blues album sounds amazing, what I've heard of it..

Stormy Davis (diamond), Thursday, 9 March 2006 19:50 (twenty years ago)

February on Table of the Elements, yeah. I didn't realize that Kane was drumming for Rhys Chatham as well (there's a lot I don't know about that whole scene):

Liked that Morricone posted by jaxon on the march listening thread so here's a cpl more:
track 7, and track 1 from 'il Serpente' ('73). The first is noise board material, the second ain't but these demonstrate what we all know - the remarkable range he had.

Sanctus / Benedictus from the Missa Luba, performed by Les Troubadours du Roi Baudouin
vinyl rip of original recording as used in Lindsay Anderson's "If...."

beware the recent CD re-recording, find the vinyl

milton parker (Jon L), Thursday, 16 March 2006 22:55 (twenty years ago)

milton, is that from the pink lyrichord album? i have a recording of that, but not sure if it's the same one

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Friday, 17 March 2006 00:12 (twenty years ago)

tell me what the pink lyrichord album is -- curious

mine's ripped from this:

http://www.thepelicans.co.uk/photos/lubamissa.jpg

milton parker (Jon L), Friday, 17 March 2006 00:20 (twenty years ago)

oh, wait, it's not lyrichord. it's on Epic. hold on...

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Friday, 17 March 2006 00:24 (twenty years ago)

It looks like it's the same performers--Joachim Ngoi and the Troubadours of King Baodouin, Kamina, Belgian Congo. I can't find an image of it. It is catalog number LF 18005.

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Friday, 17 March 2006 00:27 (twenty years ago)

sounds like that's either a compilation with the same track or a stateside issue of the same album -- cool

I channelsurfed into a local station playing "If...." when I was 13, right during the scene with the gymnast doing flips with a blatant tape loop of an orchestral swell stuck on the soundtrack, and it stayed with me. I don't think an OST has ever been released, so I'm on the hunt now.

I own copies of most of what I post, but props to DD for loaning the hard to find Jones. There's some other stuff of his at ubu.com, though 'Solar Music' is the true source. There's another performance of it from1984 I just ordered online.

Does anyone have any of those solo Bangalter 12 inches?

milton parker (Jon L), Sunday, 19 March 2006 03:45 (twenty years ago)

I went on a serach for more info on that miss luba and i found this blogger ripped the LP (sounds like the lp with the crackling) - this is really great. 'benedictus' is toward the end.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Sunday, 19 March 2006 11:35 (twenty years ago)
