i bumped this thread because buzza's thinking everyone is a sock and making paranoid/aggro posts about it is vmic. not because fred b is a sock.

Gotta follow my lead and post in the most unmemorable way possible. It's the only way to dissuade ilx conspiracy people trying to connect dots all the time.

I have no problem w the dm feature.

i have sometimes found it kind of hostile, to be honest

in the rare occasion that anyone has used it to contact me, the messages have either been genuine and friendly or intended to reduce acrimony (not to sow it)
(so far)

barely anyone has used it for me, not for a long time. the people i know on ilx i am connected to other ways.

but in years past i'd get some messages there that i could have done without. nothing egregious, but i don't give out my email address to everyone you know. just every store i shop in.

i was just kind of throwing out ways to improve the site and retain more posters. i feel like this site is getting smaller and smaller

any ilx mail I've ever sent or received to/from someone I didn't know offboard was usually me or them apologizing for getting too heated or a misunderstanding

my more humorous take on the location conspiracy is that any poster that has a city/state/country in their name absolutely does not live in that location

although I did once see 'alex in montreal' in said city but that may be the exception that proves the rule
