stupid. i smell foul play. forget the wii remote strap breaking -- work on your GRIP, anemic gamer douchebags.

elmo argonaut (allocryptic), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 15:17 (nineteen years ago)

roffle
they're right though, there are like 10 holes in that story. also the first one came from somethingawful forums, second one posted on a virgin flickr acct, durrrr

sleep (sleep), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 15:20 (nineteen years ago)

I think whichever poster made the point that "it's not real bowling, don't LET GO of it" has probably got the winning insight here. If you think about the bowling follow-through I can easily imagine how letting go of the remote at the normal time you'd let go of the bowling ball could pitch the controller right off your wrist with the strap loop slipping right off.

DOCTOR METH KING (TOMBOT), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 15:24 (nineteen years ago)

But yeah never overestimate the stupidity of greedy lame internet fucktards

DOCTOR METH KING (TOMBOT), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 15:27 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, pretty likely. either that, or they were twirling the fucking thing by the strap on their finger to make it GO FASTER FASTER YEAH

elmo argonaut (allocryptic), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 15:28 (nineteen years ago)

sure, but they used the slipped-out-of-my-sweaty-hands story, and supposedly the strap loop actually broke which i'd think would take away some of the force.

MOMUS SPEAKS

gbx (skowly), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 16:23 (nineteen years ago)

Oh Momus.

But if time really is money, why aren't we paying Chinese students and homeless people to play our video games for us too?

Welcome to the World of Warcraft, my cyclopean friend.

elmo argonaut (allocryptic), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 16:33 (nineteen years ago)

FUCK, I NEED TO GO TO NINTENDO STORE.

XPOST

But if time really is money, why aren't we paying Chinese students and homeless people to play our video games for us too?

Wow, I can't believe that one got by the Wired editors. Momus has fucking tunnel vision / horsey blinders on / a cognitive eyepatch and "grasps" whatever he's writing about without being sufficiently immersed in. See his posts on this thread: "I was otherwise very normal before I became 4 years old" I'm sure someone else can analyze why he likes to frame everything in the manner that makes the most sense to him.

roc u like a § (ex machina), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 16:56 (nineteen years ago)

American kids who think they "understand" Japanese culture because they love video games and anime

versus

Momus, who thinks he has a deep understanding of Japan (Berlin/britishes/americans) because he's Momus.

mh. (mike h.), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 17:00 (nineteen years ago)

versus

rip gygax ;_;

roc u like a § (ex machina), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 17:02 (nineteen years ago)

'm sure someone else can analyze why he likes to frame everything in the manner that makes the most sense to him.

I'll give it a try. Momus is a bounded rational agent.

DOCTOR METH KING (TOMBOT), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 17:11 (nineteen years ago)

zingamabob.

ANYWAY I don't really think that Momus article is worth discussing, he's just an old man complaining about the kids these days (again), just using a couple of recent articles about gadgets as the frame of reference (as old men who like to complain are wont to do when they are getting paid to grumble and bitch).

DOCTOR METH KING (TOMBOT), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 17:15 (nineteen years ago)

no, momus isn't very interesting, but i will say this to cement jon's point above -- leave it to momus to explore the dubious 'ethics' of the air-guitar shirt without giving a single thought to the possible medical applications of the underlying technology. fucking idiot.

elmo argonaut (allocryptic), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 17:36 (nineteen years ago)

in other not-news, Bill O'Reilly and Momus apparently agree with each other.

DOCTOR METH KING (TOMBOT), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 17:42 (nineteen years ago)

What does Momus think about the OJ special?

roc u like a § (ex machina), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 17:44 (nineteen years ago)

I now have Zelda, Excite Truck and Red Steel.

That Target list was just the alleged initial allocation.

milo z (mlp), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 21:07 (nineteen years ago)

So glad you guys agree the broken TV thing is bogus.
Hold on to the damn controller, CONƒPIRATORS.

turbogirlwc8ko3.jpg (blastocyst), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 21:16 (nineteen years ago)

hate to bring it up again but this part is too funny:
OK, let's look at the ethics of that. As a self-taught guitar player -- and perhaps a bit of a puritan -- I subscribe to the "no pain, no gain" school of thought. In order to play the guitar, you should learn the guitar.

WAAAAAAAAA no one appreciates me anymore!

turbogirlwc8ko3.jpg (blastocyst), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 21:19 (nineteen years ago)

Momus should teach himself how to sing next

She even proposed a brilliant addition: a Wii Remote for your feet to add to the fun of a Wii-enabled fighting game.

BRILLIANT

roc u like a § (ex machina), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 21:43 (nineteen years ago)

Sure enough, when I tried hitting a baseball in another game, it was another exercise in round pegs versus round holes.

so uh, the pegs fit perfectly?

roc u like a § (ex machina), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 22:35 (nineteen years ago)

This device is called a nunchuk, since that's kind of what it looks like when you connect the two wireless controllers with a cord. But if you think you'll be able to whip them around like Bruce Lee, you're in for the first of many disappointments.

tards be game bloggin'
