why do old people and old users of ILX such bastardos (deangulberry), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 17:43 (twenty-one years ago)

It arrived today! I have been playing it non-stop! Some of the soundtrack reminds me of CORNELIUS, but then I am low on JAPANESE points of reference. My little prince is rolling some huge katamaris and YOU cannot stop him!

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 04:06 (twenty-one years ago)

It reminds of CORNELIUS? Hmmm... It's pretty straight up J-Pop/J-Dance for the most part.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 15:53 (twenty-one years ago)

It is not a culture I am familair with. perhaps you could tell me more.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 15:57 (twenty-one years ago)

"perhaps"

why do old people and old users of ILX such bastardos (deangulberry), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 16:00 (twenty-one years ago)

DEAN GULBERRY, YOU WILL ENJOY THIS GAME (IF YOU HAVEN'T GOT IT YET)

both of you give me $25 and I will tell you all there is to tell.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 16:03 (twenty-one years ago)

$31 with shipping!!!

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 16:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I haven't received mine yet. I hope it comes while I am still sick so I can play it while hibernating at home.

why do old people and old users of ILX such bastardos (deangulberry), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 16:11 (twenty-one years ago)

It messes with your head a bit. The guy who I bought it from sent me a note that said "Thanks! Now I can afford a lobotomy!".

This really happened!

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 16:13 (twenty-one years ago)

CULTURE VULTURES

YOFX (ddb), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 16:26 (twenty-one years ago)

$31 with shipping! Oy vey. You could've got 2 at Best Buy 3 weeks ago when it was released!

What countries have you been to yet? How many constellations have you made?

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 17:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Countries? I have made Cancer and Gemini and Cygnus so far.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 17:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Is Best Buy usually cheap 4 games? Maybe I will browse on my lunch break.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 17:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Each "Make A Star" screen takes place in a different country... I think the first ones are:

Thailand
Phillipines
Portugal
Spain
Holland
... I can't remember the other ones.

Best Buy = ROCK BOTTOM PRICES on day/week of release games and also major label CDs.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 17:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, like when the King Of All Cosmos says hello in different languages?

I have been to

all of the countries you mention above EXCEPT Thailand. I can't wait to get home and play it! Only I might have to gov over to these lame people's house and waych AMERICAN PIE of all things. plz help me! ;'(

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 17:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, like when the King Of All Cosmos says hello in different languages?

well you know adam, the earth is a globe and each star represents a new country!

What are your records?

Make a star 1: 15.2cm
Make a star 2: 35.0cm

gygax! (gygax!), Sunday, 17 October 2004 17:33 (twenty-one years ago)

gygax, do you know what the game cover looks like? it will make my next trip to the video game store not take three hours.

it's giving me a headache ;..(

experimental grandma (deangulberry), Thursday, 21 October 2004 03:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I bought it an hour ago and I willing cede my life to it now.

I really hope there wasn't anything important I missed in the introduction when the floated head talked to me for like 20 minutes.

Laura E (laurae55), Thursday, 21 October 2004 12:30 (twenty-one years ago)

You mean the King Of All Cosmos? That guy is a BASTARD.

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 21 October 2004 15:40 (twenty-one years ago)

KOAC reminds me of you, Adam. He talks in RHYMES and RIDDLES. Also, after Make a Star 9, you find out that he's a Scot.

experimental grandma (deangulberry), Thursday, 21 October 2004 15:52 (twenty-one years ago)

You're already at MAKE A STAR 9???????

I got Stretch Panic too. Japanese games are WEIRD (like WILCO).

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I made an amazing star 3 (SUGOOOOOOOOOI) but now I'm stuck on star 4.

Seriously, does KOAC say anything relevant to gameplay ever? I can only translate about 1/16 of what he says.

Laura E (laurae55), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:19 (twenty-one years ago)

It's not terribly relevant but it's pretty funny. In the English version, it seems to me like it's 50% deliberate aloofness / 50% awkward translation.

experimental grandma (deangulberry), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:29 (twenty-one years ago)

KOAC says out loud the things that most of us only THINK.

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:30 (twenty-one years ago)

It's true. It's pretty damn funny in certain parts, but that SCREEN OF FAILURE with the POURING RAIN OF REGRET is soulcrushing ;(

experimental grandma (deangulberry), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:31 (twenty-one years ago)

He gets genuinely stoked if you like collect like 80%+ of all maximum objects... like if you double+ what the suggested size or if you get to the suggested size fast (and then you get a "shooting star").

experimental grandma (deangulberry), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Is there any significance to the presents that he recieves? I see that he can wear them in the monitor while you're rolling the katamari, but does it help in any way?

experimental grandma (deangulberry), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

The prince is awesome. I like how he flies from planet to planet.

The two-player mode is a little disappointing, though. I wish they didn't have arena-style levels like that, it gets repetitive.

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:44 (twenty-one years ago)

the presents are just bonus. i can't figure out the cousins purpose (for 1 player mode).

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 21 October 2004 17:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Isn't the cousins/mushroom mode for two player only? I figured that it was only showing up for me because I had both controllers plugged in. Does it still show up when you've only one controller plugged in?

experimental grandma (deangulberry), Thursday, 21 October 2004 17:16 (twenty-one years ago)

yes sir. have you checked your game progress? i have not been playing because of the amazing baseball playoffs but will resume in a week or two i'm sure.

laura, are you watching the Japan Series?

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 21 October 2004 17:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I had to do something other than watch the middle of last night's game. It was too stressful.

experimental grandma (deangulberry), Thursday, 21 October 2004 17:19 (twenty-one years ago)

are you kidding me? that was a blowout!

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 21 October 2004 17:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not watching it, but my manager is crazy about the Dragons and there's some sort of crazy drum banging thing that happens in the local arcade every time there is a big game, so most of the details eventually filter down to me.

Laura E (laurae55), Thursday, 21 October 2004 17:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Nice! my best friend grew up near Seibu's turf and his younger brother is a maniac for the Lions. I got him a NY Mets hat for Kazuo Matsui who debuted in the USA this year, his favorite player. I've been watching on yahoo! sports japan when i get a chance.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 21 October 2004 17:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I am not kidding you. I was waiting for the Red Sox to blow their lead. Also, katamari + cough syrup >>>>>> baseball + cough syrup.
