This is Howlin' Wolf's New Album. He Doesn't Like it. He didn't like his electric guitar at first either.

Thought to follow large-ish mp3s with a short-and-sweet one:

Joyce 'Clareana'

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 8 February 2006 22:33 (twenty years ago)

Bo Hansson - The Black Riders/Flight To The Ford from the single slowed down to 33, making it MUCH better.

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 01:36 (twenty years ago)

Almendra - Color Humano.
One of the longer jams from the first album. Nice sound, singing, etc. Other tracks from the same album are a bit more normal folkie/rock tracks.

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 01:52 (twenty years ago)

Pescado Rabioso - la sed verdadera from Artaud, a later album by Almendra alum Spinetta. This album is pretty conventional in some ways, with lots more normal folk and pop songs and guitar playing more overtly influenced by blues cliches. The addition of field recordings(?) to the end section of this track is a nice change.

Marc Ribot - "Bataille"

Sundar (sundar), Thursday, 16 February 2006 04:58 (twenty years ago)

posted this once to Lars, but I think it's time again

a friend of someone I work with moved into a house in Napa, and was cleaning the basement -- while dusting off one of the rafters, he knocked a cassette to the floor. the cassette was labelled 'part of the plan' and it contained this one song.

milton parker (Jon L), Friday, 17 February 2006 00:28 (twenty years ago)

Kaada/Mike Patton - "Aubade"

I'm interested in what people think of this and the last. In some ways they're really crude but I still find them interesting. (That Ribot is actually very atypical of the album, most of which is much more textural and ambient and more overt about its Scelsi homage.)

Sundar (sundar), Friday, 17 February 2006 04:13 (twenty years ago)

(which is to say I'm not 100% sure what I think of them.)

Sundar (sundar), Friday, 17 February 2006 04:32 (twenty years ago)

i'm thinking ban, for sullying our good ysi thread with mike fuckin' patton.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 17 February 2006 06:18 (twenty years ago)

Are you allowed to ban?

And Helios Creed - "America is in Good Hands"

http://s37.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3M96MP54IK8YY0NCGQAA8V9E2Z

In celebration of the fact that he's playing 6 blocks away from my house in 3 weeks. Which means I can walk home afterwards, regardless of what sort of horrible things I may choose to put into my system. Perhaps stacked for greater effect. Hoo-rah.

John Justen (johnjusten), Friday, 17 February 2006 07:32 (twenty years ago)

the Ribot track is okay, it doesn't slay me. curious about the Scelsi tribute, maybe a little worried too -- Sundar, have you heard Scelsi's 'Uaxuctum'?

milton parker (Jon L), Friday, 17 February 2006 21:00 (twenty years ago)

Porest - Let's Roll & We Eat The People from Tourrorists!

milton parker (Jon L), Saturday, 18 February 2006 00:50 (twenty years ago)

though it's kind of unfair to excerpt from that album, it only comes together when you take in all of it at once

milton parker (Jon L), Saturday, 18 February 2006 00:52 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, that's probably a good assessment, milton. Haven't heard that Scelsi piece. I'm curious to listen to the Helios Creed, after reading Mark Prindle's reviews of him.

(Will try to get something really good on here, honest.)

Sundar (sundar), Saturday, 18 February 2006 01:06 (twenty years ago)

hahaha I think I used to have a funny track called Fist Dumplings by Porest.

VIDEO STRESS (blastocyst), Saturday, 18 February 2006 01:07 (twenty years ago)

thx for the Ribot sundar. ws reading about guitarist Mike Cooper's own scelsi tribute last night - here is another rev i found - the 'electric fan' bit reminds me of Annette Krebs (not heard the samples but will do so).

here is another of nate's mixes:::::

virtual mix tape reality
Message: I have made a "podast" (aka mixtape mp3) for a European
record label website that you guys should check out.

The tow previous mixes I have put out on the internet (on
my webpage www.languagerecovery.org) were based pretty
strictly around turn-of-the-seventies psych-folk with some
proggish tendencies. This recent podcast really dips into
proggier territory, with a healthy dose of fusion-jazz (the
most neglected psychedelic genre), while also offering up
stoned folk rock and spacy avant-garde stylings.

this is the tracklisting:
1. Weather Report - "Milky Way" from s/t (1971)
2. Parameter - "Odyssey" from Galactic Ramble (1971)
3. Larry Coryell - "Lady Coryell" from Lady Coryell (1969)
4. Workshop - "Te Bur" from Mundwinkelplage (1998)
5. Tony Williams Lifetime - "This Night This Song" from
Turn It Over (1970)
6. Fille Qui Mousse - "Mirroir Nagait Dans Le Lac..." from
Se Tair Pour Un Femme Trop Belle (1971)
7. Parameter - "Odyssey II" from Galactic Ramble (1971)
8. Siloah - "Magic Carpet Ride To The Alps" from Sukram
Gurk (1972)
9. La Joven Guardia - "Despues De La Tormenta" from El
Extrano Del Pelo Largo (1969)
10. Dimthings - "Rain" from Best Of (2005)
11. Lard Free - "Violez L'Espace De Son Refrigerent" from
I'm Around Midnight (1975)
12. Parameter - "Odyssey III" from Galactic Ramble (1971)
12. Picchio Dal Pozzo - "La Floricultura Di Tschincinnata"
from s/t (1976)

The Coryell and Williams tracks will really give you a taste
of what you're missing if you've never given late60s/
early70s fusion a chance (the Coryell with its startlingly
original compoisitional approach to a rock song, the
Williams with the haunting beauty of his frail, untrained tenor
vocals). The last track by Picchio Dal Pozzo is my favorite
Italian prog song ever.

You can download it here: http://a-double-a.com/
podcast.htm

If you listen to it please let me know what you think!
love, Nate
