Judee Sill "The Donor". i've been meaning to pick up her albums for years and finally did. this track stands head and feet above the others. totally thick, almost droney vocal overdubs. very, very nice.

In case you missed it the first time around and are still interested:

SRC - Daystar 60s psych from Detroit

HAKKEBOFFER (eman), Sunday, 22 January 2006 21:12 (twenty years ago)

That whole album is great. Their first album. "Daystar" is a nice one.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Sunday, 22 January 2006 21:30 (twenty years ago)

yeah I'm a massive SRC fan. All three albums are worthy but Traveller's Tale is a bit of a drop-off. no Quackenbush tremolo-insanity to push things along :(

their best cut is "Up All Night" from Milestones, I think; total psych glory

Stormy Davis (diamond), Monday, 23 January 2006 03:57 (twenty years ago)

hmm that doesn't seem to be on Milestones, unless i don't have all the tracks?

i want to hear some white witch, tim ellison! can you help?

gear (gear), Wednesday, 25 January 2006 22:33 (twenty years ago)

Oy, I'm afraid I just have the LPs and no ripping equipment.

You know, probably just best to find affordable copies of the LPs anyway, though, so you can wallow in the whole deal. A friend of mine got a twofer CD of the first two Klaatu albums after I'd been talking about them and I wondered how much he would like them. Turns out he wasn't so into them. I wonder if he might have felt differently if he'd had the LPs rather than digital data reproductions of the LPs.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 25 January 2006 22:59 (twenty years ago)

White Witch rule, by the way.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 25 January 2006 23:00 (twenty years ago)

I'd recommend the first, self-titled album first. Second one is more bombastic and virtuosic and great, too, but the musical range of the first album is very pleasing.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 25 January 2006 23:03 (twenty years ago)

It took me forever to find the White Witch lp with the symbol on the cover, whichever one that is. I found the one with them pictured on the cover (that's SPiritual Greeting, right?) pretty soon into my quest to get all their records .. but it seriously took me YEARS to find the other one (this was pre-eBay) ... finally found it at a rekkerd store in .. Rochester New York!

Stormy Davis (diamond), Wednesday, 25 January 2006 23:14 (twenty years ago)

A Spiritual Greeting is the second one - the one w/ the symbol on the cover.

I really want to hear Ronn's solo LP from '79. There's a copy of it on eBay right now, but starting price of ten bucks.

Thought to follow large-ish mp3s with a short-and-sweet one:

Joyce 'Clareana'

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 8 February 2006 22:33 (twenty years ago)

Bo Hansson - The Black Riders/Flight To The Ford from the single slowed down to 33, making it MUCH better.

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 01:36 (twenty years ago)

Almendra - Color Humano.
One of the longer jams from the first album. Nice sound, singing, etc. Other tracks from the same album are a bit more normal folkie/rock tracks.

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 01:52 (twenty years ago)

Pescado Rabioso - la sed verdadera from Artaud, a later album by Almendra alum Spinetta. This album is pretty conventional in some ways, with lots more normal folk and pop songs and guitar playing more overtly influenced by blues cliches. The addition of field recordings(?) to the end section of this track is a nice change.

Marc Ribot - "Bataille"

Sundar (sundar), Thursday, 16 February 2006 04:58 (twenty years ago)

posted this once to Lars, but I think it's time again

a friend of someone I work with moved into a house in Napa, and was cleaning the basement -- while dusting off one of the rafters, he knocked a cassette to the floor. the cassette was labelled 'part of the plan' and it contained this one song.

milton parker (Jon L), Friday, 17 February 2006 00:28 (twenty years ago)

Kaada/Mike Patton - "Aubade"

I'm interested in what people think of this and the last. In some ways they're really crude but I still find them interesting. (That Ribot is actually very atypical of the album, most of which is much more textural and ambient and more overt about its Scelsi homage.)

Sundar (sundar), Friday, 17 February 2006 04:13 (twenty years ago)

(which is to say I'm not 100% sure what I think of them.)

Sundar (sundar), Friday, 17 February 2006 04:32 (twenty years ago)

i'm thinking ban, for sullying our good ysi thread with mike fuckin' patton.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 17 February 2006 06:18 (twenty years ago)

And Helios Creed - "America is in Good Hands"

In celebration of the fact that he's playing 6 blocks away from my house in 3 weeks. Which means I can walk home afterwards, regardless of what sort of horrible things I may choose to put into my system. Perhaps stacked for greater effect. Hoo-rah.

John Justen (johnjusten), Friday, 17 February 2006 07:32 (twenty years ago)

the Ribot track is okay, it doesn't slay me. curious about the Scelsi tribute, maybe a little worried too -- Sundar, have you heard Scelsi's 'Uaxuctum'?
