I have mixed feelings about the vaporwave trend of building tracks out of slowed down samples of 80s hits. The Eyes Without A Face one is pretty good. The Born in the USA one, not so much.

that's doing it wrong -- the point is to find the song-within-the-song, like the secret instrumental electro tracks that some 80s productions become when you remove the vocals

yeah that's great too, but the stuff isn't supposed to be profound necessarily.. reminds me of the argument about how certain disco edits are "pointless" because they don't "add anything" to the original. good edits are usually about dancefloor functionalism not necessarily magical transformation (although it's great and interesting when that happens too).. similarly, the slowed-down 80s hits style is more about a kind of cheap "emotional functionalism" with context/respect getting ripped out/fucked with.. like it's besides the point that one could do these slow-down things on their own PC, the end product is just a product, the vaporwave creator/curator just happened to 'make' it but he's just the puppet in the 80s gods hands...

that probably doesn't make any sense, oh well

Feel like artists like V/vm and plunderphonics in general peaked too soon; they would florish under the vaporwave moniker.

I searched down Mello Mist, an album by dang Olsen that's not on Spotify. Nice as expected and brief. 8 tracks in like 28 minutes which could as well be a single telepath track.
