they're kind of a sore subject with me because i dated someone who would get annoyed that i overused them. like, pulling out of the driveway i put them on out of habit even though no one could possibly be behind me.

how could someone get annoyed with 'overuse', are you expected to check all around in case there's no-one there or no pedestrian about to come round the corner before you use them? No, you make it a fucking habit and do it all the time so people don't have to second-guess what idiotic drivers are doing grrr grr non-use of indicators is one of my biggest pet peeves

otm and idiot drivers who signal one way and then go the other. that must be some kind of dyslexia right bc it's not that hard to remember which way to flick the fucking thing

Was gonna ask how/why you signal exiting a driveway but realized you're probably one of those AAA backer-upper commando savages

of course you signal leaving the driveway. most driveways give you at least two exit options, so you signal to let people know what you intend to do. even if you only had one choice, you'd still signal, to distinguish yourself from someone just sitting in a car waiting for life to happen. plus kinder otm. you signal no matter what cuz it's an excellent habit for a driving person to have. harrumph for emphasis. boy this really steams me up.

i was always taught to call 'em "clickers" as in "okay, put your clicker on"

how is using a turn signal to indicate that you're backing up "letting people know whar you intend to do"? i have just never seen anybody do this, sorry

the driveway in question isn't one where you back out. you drive out front first.

i just don't know who you're signaling to. if it's a car that's going to be right behind you, i don't know what information signaling is supposed to convey. if it's cars/people behind you, a turn signal is not conveying any information to them about your backing up. information!!

why wouldn't you signal out of a driveway? How many driveways launch you directly into the direction of travel? Your car has to turn in a direction as you enter the roadway.

usually i'd be pulling out onto an empty road though. sometimes i would signal when like, entering a cul-de-sac. there were cases in which it wasn't warranted.

There's never harm done by indicating (unless you do it wrong) but there can be harm done by not indicating if there's someone there you didn't see. It just makes sense to indicate every time.

like, there's no point to indicating you are making a turn unless you are making a turn, regardless of whether you are moving forwards or backwards

technically if you parked with the rear of the vehicle to the garage, my childhood driveway was like this, as there was a road straight across from it. but then again I never parked like that.

exactally. though when i use my blinky thingy, i figure the most important audience is the person i've somehow completely failed to notice, whoever they might be and whatever direction they might be traveling in.
