There was a (complementary) creché facility which they failed to use, for some reason. Obviously they're going to be cursing themselves for doing this, but... Oh I dunno. What's common sense? I wrote about it on my blog and someone called me a bastard. For my book I'm planning a chapter on a husband who drugs his wife and artificially inseminates her with other mens' sperm to order, then has the babies 'abducted' as toddlers as a cover for selling them.

I mean, it wasn't an especially good zing, because it kind of came out of nowhere (Dan has never said anything that harsh to me, even in person) and wasn't really accurate (unless mentioning to your friends that you wrote something that you thought they might be interested in = self-promotion), but it looks like she was all too eager to support it.

Look, the zing itself bothered me because it was from someone I consider a good friend of mine and a decent human being and I wasn't sure why he felt the way he did, and I've still not gotten a satisfactory answer from him. At the time, most people on the Chicago thread were like, "dude, Dan, wtf?" -- the consensus was that he had definitely crossed a line.

So it sucks to see that Laurel thought that the zing was casually funny enough to repost on the Noise Board -- but not entirely surprising, given that she has a tendency to interpret my (fairly innocuous) words and behavior in a way that has resulted in cruel, judgmental comments (cf. the Chicago thread yesterday and in a private e-mail dated October 24, 2006).
