- watched srsly awesome and most true-to-its-name video at the library called "the miracle of life" (nova, 1983, featuring photography by lennart nilsson, who is famous for inside the human body photography techniques c. 70s - had seen bits on pbs etc before but never the full 55 min) - it's abt the reproductive systems (m & f) and growth of baby, obv - features awesome synth music score of high drama and all kinds of great high-contrast colour footage of inside passages. also, i watched it on this old tech!

I used to do editing for ad agency and had to deal with hundreds of these bastard things.

okay the thing about lightning bolt energy drink is not only is it called lightning bolt but it has lightning bolts on it in an aluminum sky of blackness and it is steven segal's lightning bolt and it has an artist's rendering of him and also his signature and a quote i am sure he said. it is blowing my mind a bit.

xpost
ahha. that had to have been some killer ad copy b/c srsly who buys one of those? besides school libraries.

rrrobyn, Monday, 30 April 2007 23:03 (seventeen years ago) link

it used to be the future

rrrobyn, Monday, 30 April 2007 23:04 (seventeen years ago) link

Ad agencies! Umatics are still the preferred format for the advertising/postproduction industry.

xp

admrl, Monday, 30 April 2007 23:05 (seventeen years ago) link

Well, as of three years ago anyway.

admrl, Monday, 30 April 2007 23:06 (seventeen years ago) link

i have learned something here today
that is so weird
why umatics??

rrrobyn, Monday, 30 April 2007 23:11 (seventeen years ago) link

I love that we are talking about Umatics on ILX!

High-band Umatics are cheap and have a better colour reproduction and lower noise than VHS. Go into any TV station, postproduction facility or ad agency and you will see a Umat player. I'm sure it's all going to DVD now but I was outputting to Umatics for broadvast as late as 2003.

Just today a medical doctor advised me to handle anxiety by repeating the litany against fear from Dune to myself! Apparently he has it hanging above his desk or something
