NYT:
According to New York Cityโs shoveling rules, if it stops snowing between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m., you have until 11 a.m. to clear your sidewalk.
In this case, the snow stopped falling around 2 a.m., the National Weather Service said.
All you need to do is clear a path four feet wide โ enough to accommodate a wheelchair or double stroller. If you are a tenant, it is the landlordโs responsibility to clear the snow.
Of course, you could let nature and SnoMelt do the job for you. It is supposed to be sunny today, with a high of 33. (Interestingly, even when itโs below freezing, snow evaporates, going directly from a solid to a gas! The process is called sublimation.)
But that would be wrong. And you could be fined up to $150 and go to jail for up to 10 days, even for a first offense. And the city could shovel your walk and bill you for it.
