lauren, Thursday, 31 January 2008 15:29 (eighteen years ago)

i spent 2 yrs of my life at plant bar and all i got was this lousy mild concussion.

lauren, Thursday, 31 January 2008 15:30 (eighteen years ago)

oh you got more then that, I remember.

dan selzer, Thursday, 31 January 2008 15:44 (eighteen years ago)

do you remember the donut drink?

lauren, Thursday, 31 January 2008 15:51 (eighteen years ago)

Dan, might want to check in with your hosting company or your server or something. i'm getting this:

Unable to connect
Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at acuterecords.com.

sanskrit, Thursday, 31 January 2008 16:11 (eighteen years ago)

yeah, I just called them. WTF. Just after I post and advertise a totally mega blog post, it goes out. It's back now.

I don't remember the donut drink though.

dan selzer, Thursday, 31 January 2008 16:35 (eighteen years ago)

vodka and hawaiian punch garnished with half of a hostess chocolate frosted donut.

lauren, Thursday, 31 January 2008 16:44 (eighteen years ago)

you see, I was busing DJ'ING when you were sitting at the bar pouring yourself drinks when Luke's back was turned.

dan selzer, Thursday, 31 January 2008 16:49 (eighteen years ago)

xp Run. Possibly screaming.

Laurel, Thursday, 31 January 2008 16:49 (eighteen years ago)

sitting behind the bar, more like.

this sounds amazing!

bell_labs, Thursday, 31 January 2008 16:52 (eighteen years ago)

when the money started running out they stopped restocking the bar save for the basics, which led to some interesting mixed drinks.

lauren, Thursday, 31 January 2008 16:54 (eighteen years ago)

I was late to work because I read that.

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Thursday, 31 January 2008 17:46 (eighteen years ago)

I'm glad somebody did. Now you just need a job like I had, where you start at 1pm, to be able to read the internet all morning and stay out all night.

dan selzer, Thursday, 31 January 2008 17:56 (eighteen years ago)

Dude, I make my own hours.

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Thursday, 31 January 2008 18:47 (eighteen years ago)

how can you be late then?

sexyDancer, Thursday, 31 January 2008 20:01 (eighteen years ago)

i broke my own hours

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Thursday, 31 January 2008 20:18 (eighteen years ago)

so now I'm here all day

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Thursday, 31 January 2008 20:18 (eighteen years ago)

you read the post, sD? You're in it...

dan selzer, Thursday, 31 January 2008 20:20 (eighteen years ago)

I almost went into how the No Wave night was extra special because you and Suzanne spent the whole time making paper airplanes out of Excepter fliers and throwing them around the bar.

dan selzer, Thursday, 31 January 2008 20:21 (eighteen years ago)

first Excepter show in Manhattan, part of KA recorded there...

sexyDancer, Thursday, 31 January 2008 20:28 (eighteen years ago)

I couldn't remember, I knew it was the first or second, same with Cause Co-Motion, so I think it must've been their second show. I remember you brought the traffic lamp and asked me to mix to the Misfits for my last song I think.

dan selzer, Thursday, 31 January 2008 20:30 (eighteen years ago)

or do you mean your first show was in brooklyn...Intervention?

dan selzer, Thursday, 31 January 2008 20:31 (eighteen years ago)

First show in Manhattan. we'd played a string of shows in Brooklyn, starting at Level X, then at Intervention.
pretty sure I requested Psychic TV's "Eve of Destruction" at the close of our set.

sexyDancer, Thursday, 31 January 2008 20:36 (eighteen years ago)

oh god, intervention.

lauren, Thursday, 31 January 2008 20:37 (eighteen years ago)

that was a cool read Dan.

Steve Shasta, Thursday, 31 January 2008 20:42 (eighteen years ago)

Why did I say Misfits. You know what, it was the Melvins. At some point you put on a Melvins CD and sampled and looped it or something, I swear.

For the newbies, Intervention was Chris and Ivan of Ghost Exits party at the BQE Lounge. I remember thinking, who'd be crazy enough to open a bar in that part of williamsburg? I saw Excepter play there, through the smoke. I think I was with Lauren, actually.

glad you liked reading it...check back because I'm gonna keep editing it and adding shit and the comments section will be stupid mad loquacious as well.

dan selzer, Thursday, 31 January 2008 20:53 (eighteen years ago)

i was also at that xcepter show...

god, were those on like tuesdays? some bad mornings after that. bqe was a crazy set up. whatever happened with that space? seems empty as anyting still ... this was just after ihu and craig (and sometimes me)used to do that wed night thing at warsaw with ghost exists as the "house band". ivan entering the room in a wheelchair...

bb, Thursday, 31 January 2008 21:01 (eighteen years ago)

how many people actually had to go to rehab after intervention?

lauren, Thursday, 31 January 2008 21:02 (eighteen years ago)

i saw xcpeter play once at that weird yuppie bar that used to be near cbgbs with the video cameras in the booths that broadcast to tvs all over the bar

bell_labs, Thursday, 31 January 2008 21:04 (eighteen years ago)

remote lounge...v. weird owners

bb, Thursday, 31 January 2008 21:08 (eighteen years ago)

dan, do you remember the "look! i made labia out of the pastrami! /look! i made balls out of my balls!" incident?

lauren, Thursday, 31 January 2008 21:11 (eighteen years ago)

absolutely not.

Remote Lounge was bizarre. I DJ'd there once, I can't remember what for.

I do know however that the building BQE lounge is in was bought by a young couple where are succesfull playwrites and friends of a friend of mine. They turned it into their apartment. I think that included the restaurant downstairs? They lived in half and rented the other, I think.

dan selzer, Thursday, 31 January 2008 21:31 (eighteen years ago)

we did a couple nights there(remote)...some silly 8-bit stuff, then a wierd show with d4ni3l g1v3ns, t3ss, and someother stuff..but you only did that one night at that damned les bar with us, right?

bb, Thursday, 31 January 2008 22:01 (eighteen years ago)

the night I dj'd the basement of Rothko with Spencer Product, who didn't even bother to play because nobody was there? Or some other time?

dan selzer, Thursday, 31 January 2008 22:02 (eighteen years ago)

i liked reading that! reminded me of my year djing on tuesday nights at a bar no one came to

s1ocki, Thursday, 31 January 2008 22:10 (eighteen years ago)

i dont recall who else was on. ihu had put it all together...i went home real early as i was dying...and after 2 drinks it was time for a cab and 13hrs of sleep. i think that was the 1st disaster there, aided by crap weather and the fact i did nothing to get any press or promotion...i recall looking forward to meeting you that night, as id only seen you play or had some virtual communications at that point, but only lasted like an hour. 2nd disaster was having the doors closed cause of capacity at 11 pm, and still only making about 100 bucks in the end...last show/party i did anywhere in new york.

bb, Thursday, 31 January 2008 22:17 (eighteen years ago)

I want a time machine. Just for one night

Capitaine Jay Vee, Thursday, 31 January 2008 23:49 (eighteen years ago)

I want my misspent youth back.

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Friday, 1 February 2008 00:13 (eighteen years ago)

more or less than your hair

max, Friday, 1 February 2008 00:16 (eighteen years ago)

i used to work with a plant bar habitue and i'd meet up with him there sometimes. he actually lived in the same building, one floor above.

sanskrit, Friday, 1 February 2008 02:02 (eighteen years ago)

did he live with Neil, Irish ex-pat, Plant Bar manager, who opened up Tuck Shop?

dan selzer, Friday, 1 February 2008 03:37 (eighteen years ago)

why am I suddenly getting the weird memory that I got into a big fight with you because you were throwing a matchbook over my head. Was that you?

dan selzer, Friday, 1 February 2008 03:37 (eighteen years ago)

he lived with another irishman and was tight with d0m K., but i don't think i was around for many of your sets. i certainly never tried to light you on fire!

anth0ny from r1 told me that Hanger Bar is actually a bar by night and fashion boutique by day. i thought that was awfully pretentious until i realized it as a pretty clever use of space.

sanskrit, Friday, 1 February 2008 04:02 (eighteen years ago)

btw, dan, ihus in town tomorrow and performing with sasha (in flagranti, ja)..email me if yr interested cause i prolly cant go

bb, Friday, 1 February 2008 04:32 (eighteen years ago)

I'm going to DJ in DC tomorrow.

There's never been a smarter idea then having your friends live in the apt upstairs from the bar, and even making said friend the managers.

dan selzer, Friday, 1 February 2008 04:44 (eighteen years ago)

have fun; thnks for making memory happen!

bb, Friday, 1 February 2008 04:52 (eighteen years ago)

lauren, Friday, 1 February 2008 14:44 (eighteen years ago)

Dan,
Did you take advantage of Lincoln's B-day suspension of Alternate Side of the Street Parking today?
