idk, I find that thread title charming in its scottsewardian matter-of-factness. I like it.

i know you know that Thukydides was an attempt at transliteration but I was trying to observe that it was an inconsistent one, given the upsilon variation

A classic 'lost in the mists of time' thing to an extent, but I've always assumed it was something from the books of MOLESWORTH, which has contributed much in the way of GRATE slang to ILX. Please refer to the Sunday July 16 2000 entry here from the inestimable I Hate Music where a Molesworth parody is used against the Cocteau Twins in such a manner as to suggest the breeding grounds for FITES!

No this didn't start from Molesworth (he may haf used it but I can't recall it off the top of my head... maybe, but it's not the Molesworth variant that I use at any rate) - it just came into my head when posting "me vs GURLS: FITE" and since then it haf passed into ILx canon, innit.

As ilxor drash recently noted, ilx is in constant dialogue with itself and revivals mean that you do encounter terrible thread title aesthetics of a decade ago, why not snigger if it's sniggerworthy
― the finest of display names? o rly (wins), Sunday, 3 May 2015 14:31 (eleven years ago)

Well that's fair enough, if you encounter them, I would be bemused if anyone went looking for them.

Pretty sure it's now permanently bonded to the words "wrap," "feta," "fetish," "FAP," etc. etc. Saran Wrap should just give up now and license the name, it's all over.

8 months pass...
can mods delete the last however many 77 posts wins is drunkenly copying to non 77 threads tonight
― nakhchivan, Friday, June 5, 2015 5:41 PM (3 days ago)
I mean if this isn't a wins-related complaint with no relation to the subject matter of the OP, idk what to say
― the geographibebebe (unregistered), Monday, 8 June 2015 20:51 (eleven years ago)
that's not really a grievance is it? petitioning to have c&ps removed from search results is complaining, that is more of a caveat to an ongoing violation of a known basic rule
― The Fields of Karlhenry (nakhchivan), Monday, 8 June 2015 21:04 (eleven years ago)
eh, the Scaruffi c&ping and the 77 c&ping are still two separate incidents (even though they stem from similar drunken impulses), and it's good practice to start a new mod request thread for a new incident rather than turning an existing thread with a specific purpose into a 'rolling [user] behaving badly' thread. but I'm not seriously bothered about this, and I guess it was fair game to bump that thread considering that the mods chose not to lock it.
― the geographibebebe (unregistered), Monday, 8 June 2015 21:19 (eleven years ago)
the reason was more to situate it within that pattern of drunk excesses rather than call inordinate attention to something which has got people banned before
― The Fields of Karlhenry (nakhchivan), Monday, 8 June 2015 21:28 (eleven years ago)
ah, in that case I can see where you're coming from, although I still feel like a generic 'delete 77 content' thread would be better for that purpose. I just didn't want my thread to turn into a wins pile-on, but that was clearly the opposite of your intention.
