finding the right shoes is by far the hardest bit about dressing myself as far as i'm concerned. i need a (preferably) black/white shoe (or one that will work with monochromes) for everyday use in Spring/Summer. usually i'd just opt for a standard tennis shoe but i'm bored of those and besides, my plantar fasciitis is putting me off anything too thin-soled or flat-footed. was considering some loafers and i like the idea but not sure if it'd be better to go for some stylish-looking trainers instead. where to find stylish trainers without spending a small fortune, i'm not sure. i have a john lewis gift card.

Jack Erwin report: better-looking and nicer quality than your standard Macy's-type shoes (Cole Haan, etc.) e.g. doesn't smell like glue, has leather sole. Doesn't have the "oh wow now THAT'S a shoe!" factor as allen edmonds, aldens but half the price. Spouse has not yet gotten them fully broken in and is not ready to weigh in on comfort, durability.

roshes kind of changed the game, when's the last time a new silhouette took the world by storm like that ... inspired so many knockoffs ... like there's a yeezy low top which is basically just roshes w/ some curlicues on them

There's a Bass outlet in Warrenton MO, about 20 minutes west of me, but they only carry el-cheapo crap shoes. Guess I'm going to have to just buck up and spend a couple hundred dollars on loafers. I feel a little funny spending goo-gobs of money on shoes that I'll just beat up and throw away. At least with proper dress shoes I'll have them for years and mainly wear them at the funeral home when I'm working.

My last semester of college there was a fellow who's only pair of shoes was an absolutely beat pair of Weejuns, after a couple weeks i couldn't bear it any longer, I brought my shoe shine kit to class and taught him how to use it. I explained how long the style had been around and how they dont make quality shoes like they used to, how they can be resoled if they wear out, and how much a new pair would cost if he could find them. I dont know if i came across as helpful or insane.
