maybe it's not silent. maybe it's like "school kill".

I've only ever heard it pronounced as "school-kill."

It's closer to "skookull" up here; actually more like "skook'll" I guess.

skook'll seems like the best representation for how i think it's pronounced, because the "ull" is pronounced more quickly than "skookull" would indicate

i had assumed "schuylkill" was of native american derivation. regardless, i think it's the hardest word to spell in the english language. saying this as someone who came in 2nd place in the 6th grade spelling bee.

My mother lived for much of her childhood in what she pronounced as Skooglehaven. Good enough for me.
